One of the last viable shopping malls in the Kansas City metro continues to endure hard times as continued violence could indicate another trouble summer season of commerce.
Checkit:
KCTV5: Security and emergency responders reported to Oak Park Mall Friday night. They reported to the scene just after 7 p.m. at the north end of the mall near the food court. Overland Park police say a fight happened at the mall.
Remember last year a string of violence and other suspicious activity plagued this location:
- Last year around this time a DOUBLE SHOOTING FRIGHTENED OAK PARK MALL DENIZENS and started a string of petty crimes near this location.
- Black Friday Commerce was scared away by a BRAZEN CARJACKING allegedly committed by teens during the holiday season.
- Sadly, females aren't safe at this old school shopping mall either as LADIES REPORTED A PEEPER SPYING on women in dressing rooms.
And so, harsh times continue as local harsh times for retail continue amid the rise of online shopping.

The mall is still a great place, you just have to be careful and stay on guard. It's not like the old days where you could just walk around with your head in the air. But there aren't really places like that anymore. Not even in Leawood.

It's getting harder to do business everywhere, but actually shopping for stuff in person is still more rewarding than just using a laptop.

DeleteI heard it was a bunch of kids from St Thomas Aquinas and Rockhurst. Most were upset there not going to their first choice of colleges. So they took it out on people in the mall. Damn AZ St admission board.

ReplyDeleteThe mall is a dangerous place. Don't kid yourself that it's not. Parnets used to drop their kids off here and feel some sense of security, now that would be a tragic mistake. Let's stop talking race and start talking public safety. Obviously we need to step up security at the mall and an all over Overland Park. This is a public safety issue, not just a reason for ranting. Time to this about pressing our elected leaders to do more with tax funds than just development in every part of the metro.
