SHAME!!! CITY HALL SECURITY INTIMIDATION OF POLITICAL ACTIVIST CLAY CHASTAIN IS WHY KANSAS CITY SHOULD NEVER HAVE LOCAL CONTROL OF POLICE!!!

A tragic abuse of city resources was documented yesterday at City Hall that has greater implications for a growing "bunker mentality" of Mayor Sly James, his administration and our local government in general.

Checkit:

KMBC: Light-rail activist Clay Chastain has to be escorted at City Hall

Deets dutifully reported by Mike Mahoney:

"Chastain had to wait Friday for security guards to escort him into City Hall.

"He was going to the city clerk's office to deliver his latest set of petitions, proposing another citywide light-rail plan. But Chastain was stopped at the entrance and told he could not go to the clerk's office without a security escort.

"A City Hall spokesman said Chastain is one of about 20 people on a watch list."

A few things to remember . . .

Clay Chastain has petitioned City Hall without a single incident of violence for more than 20 years.

Clay Chastain was headed to the clerk's office with his daughter.

Like it or not, Clay Chastain's business with City Hall is documented by a notary often checked with lawyers and the courts. He is a political threat to City Hall but not at all a security risk. All of this questions to politicos over the years have been pointed at best but always polite and professional.

Accordingly . . .

DISAGREE WITH CLAY CHASTAIN OR OTHERWISE . . . HE HAS NEVER POSED ANY SECURITY THREAT TO ANYONE AND THIS SECURITY ESCORT DEMONSTRATES NOT ONLY A CLEAR ABUSE OF POWER BUT ALSO A DESPICABLE USE OF POLITICAL INTIMIDATION WITH CITY HALL SECURITY RESOURCES!!!

Mr. Chastain seems to agree . . .

"What's the justification for this other than to intimidate me and make the people at City Hall and on TV think Clay Chastain is dangerous?" Chastain asked.

Some might bring up a sordid online dating Internets story during the campaign season but it's worth noting that Mr. Chastain sued in that instance and his case was quietly settled.

And so . . .

This incident should inspire readers to remember that City Hall wanted to take back control of police given that KCMO is now the only town in the nation that has their law enforcement governed by some members state appointed board instead of strictly local officials. During the discussion some members of city council laughed off suggestions of corruption and police enforcing the views of elected officials.

Accordingly . . .

It's not unreasonable to suspect that Mr. Chastain was profiled by City Hall security because an official @ 12th & Oak disagrees with his politics and activism rather than any real security risk given the transit enthusiast poses absolutely no threat of physical harm to anyone.

Wondering if TKC is on the list . . . Then realizing that I don't care given that our blog's best blogging comes by way of the mobile Internets and horrible coffee shops.

But I digress . . .

In the final analysis, the security crackdown against Clay Chastain shows us that City Hall is growing increasingly intolerant of the citizen initiative petition process and their abuse of power and seems tyrannical, irresponsible and petty.

You decide . . .

Welcome to the world of Hillary.

  2. TK, there are very few things that City Hall should be in charge of. Are you just realizing this now?

  3. Like the story said, Clay has been stopped before but this time it really seems like he's getting under Sly's sin. What you should note though Tk is that he's a former political opponent of the mayor and really let the guy have it during the debates. Is it payback? Who knows but I wish they would extend some of the same security protection to the bus stop across the street that's always the stage for vagrants threatening City Hall workers.

  5. Clay is a pest but not a terrorist. Shame on you Sly.

  6. Good for Clay getting complimentary safe passage so some nutjob can't attack him physically or verbally without witnesses. Plus, if there's discovered an invalid reason for the watch, an eventual suit could bring damages based on the totality of incidences. Just speculation, but somebody may be patiently sly on SLY in this.

  7. SEVERAL WOMEN AT CITY HALL HAVE MADE IT CLEAR THAT CLAY'S SEXUAL ADVANCES ARE UNWELCOME.

  8. I. 6:05--You show your stupidity by thinking Hillary is in any way relevant to this situation.
II. Tony's source must be Clay Chastain. No one would get this treatment without reason, and trust me, he has earned his place on the list of people
    requiring a security escort.

Is Dan Coffey on the list too?

Bring Patrick Touhey in for questioning too.

  11. Kansas Shitty already exercises control over the police department. The crooked bastards do it by passing ordinances the police are forced top follow and enforce and through manipulating the money. Anyone who doesn’t think the head coon is carrying Pendergast DNA must be on something.

  14. Just another example of Sylvester James (the obese attorney) trying to throw his weight around to get his way. Pun intended!

A very good question might be "Is Kyle James, the Mayor's son, on the security watch list?" Because Mr. James has a criminal record for repeatedly violating our laws.

Is former Councilman Pastor Dude Brooks on the security watch list? His former Council aide claimed he physically abused her, she sued the city, and was awarded damages.

Is City Manager Troy Schulte on the security watch list?
According to current Jackson County tax records, he remains a tax scofflaw, still delinquent on 2007 taxes!!!

  16. Clay is repeatedly hitting on women at City Hall. He's pretty notorious so the warning went out.

No one wants to see Clay. He's all Russian hands and Roman fingers.

Total b.s., have you seen the hogs that work at city hall? NOBODY is hitting on them

  18. This "Democratic" method of control is absolutely relevant to Hillary and her bid for rule. Don't think for a moment that it's not either.

  19. If the grifters who run Kansas City had control of local police, this place would immediately become a total banana republic. Just sayin'.

  20. So if this blog had really good tipsters they would have the whole list so we could see what the crimes were of the people involved.

  21. I agree with another poster. Clay is a pest and an annoyance. But he's not a terrorist. Not sure why City Hall feels the need to treat him as if he is some kind of physical threat.

That said, Clay has been buzzing this town about his wacky light rail plan for over a decade. Not nary one of his plans makes any kind of financial sense. There is absolutely no way his plan to finance his idea will work because it depends in large part on money he can't even remotely guarantee. If City Hall were smart they would say, "Ok, Clay. We'll put your plan on the November ballot. However, if it passes and it comes up short on the financing, you give us the right to garnish any and all of your wages to make up the difference. If you cannot financially make up the difference with your own money, then we will halt any plan/construction and you will go to jail. Now, you still want to go through with this"

That should shut him up for good. His plan is pie in the sky at best. We go on and on on this blog and others about this being financially irresponsible. Clay's plan is the epitome of financial irresponsibility to the Nth degree. Yes, he has a legal right to petition. But his plan would crush the city financially. And City Hall needs to get the facts against it out there and crush him, legally at the ballots, for good.
