KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR HURTS ANOTHER RESTAURANT BIZ!!!

Linked last night but this one deserves to be revisited . . . Once again, the reality is that the streetcar is simply bad for business as this local spot doesn't see much benefit from rail transit traffic despite wild boasts about economic gain.

What's tragic here is that by stepping forward this biz has put itself in the cross-hairs of streetcar consultants who have threatened boycotts and attacked any small biz that has expressed doubts about the hype surrounding the toy train and their bottom line

Take a look: Employees at local Kansas City diner not thrilled with streetcar
Remember . . .

The streetcar destroyed restaurant biz on the other side of the line and they're doing their best to recover. Therefore, this testimony along the other side of the trax is less than encouraging.

You decide . . .

  3. The streetcar has ruined City Market. I avoid going there now. It has taken away parking and is a pain if you get stuck behind it.

  8. Plus if you come down to the City Diner or any business in the River Market you risk getting a $47 parking ticket. I personally know 6 people who received tickets for spending their money patronizing City Market businesses. All vow never to return again to this part of KC.

  9. Yet, the City Market remains packed every weekend, as does the 'toy" train, and the surrounding neighborhood is gaining residents, business and tax base.

Guess Tony's Streetcar Jihad just isn't reaching many people in real KC.

  10. Niggers work there so I'd cloze it for health reazonz alone.

  11. The Diner is not a hipster hangout and doesn't fit the demographic for a business along the streetcar line. So that is why the streetcar hipsters hope it goes out of business.

  12. I was down there Tuesday, saw four streetcars and none of them had more than 8 people on them. Most had about six. This was between noon and 1:30 at which time i thought it would be busy. So we spent $200,000,000 on an amusement park ride for weekend tourists???

  13. ^^^^^^Liar! I personally saw a gazillion people waiting in line to avoid having to--gasp!!!--walk two miles along a route that is well-served by bus traffic. When the hotel is built, there will be two gazillion people in line.

  14. You mean the diner that closes at 2pm in the afternoon?

Read the story...not sure what the real story was. A broken window (call insurance, start the claim with the City) and some parking spots that were taken before construction was finished?

Hipsters love places like that. It just doesn't sound like their business model meshes with that potential client base.

  15. "LIVE AT 10! Find out why local a business is upset about new customers using formerly vacant and totally public on-street parking spots where no customers used to park, so they pretty much thought they "owned" it, and that employees could hog that space for entire shifts, preventing actual customers from using it...actually, fuck it, no need to tune in to find out why, it's because they're fucking dumb."

    2. Eh, I dunno. 'Streetcar Jihad' seems just a tad much. But then, what would I expect from your messaging? Competence? Clarity? Weak sauce. Solid D because at least it's different. Try harder. ;)

  16. ^^^^Streetcar jihad was moderately humorous the first time. Then mildly annoying the second time. Now it's just trolley boy proving he can be repetitious as well as veracity challenged.

  17. 10:14 AM - that has been my observation too. David Johnson is simply lying about those ridership numbers. As it has been said before? How do you know when David is lying? Answer- every time he opens his mouth.

  18. Well, I seen a line of people waiting for the Toy Train Street Car lined up as far back as Saint Louis,, to the East and as far as Little Rock Arkansas to the South.
and clear back to Salt Lake City to the West !!
Tho NOT jack Diddly Squat to the North, but one sole Hobo' !!

Then - Then and only then did I wake up, and realize it was all just a badd Nightmare !!

  19. Don't like the gropings, public lewdness on weekend nights. Some guy grabbed my ass.

  20. But, it's about economic development, not ridership.

When all the businesses along the route close, there won't be any reason to ride it, but you will still be paying for it!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not many people are worried about that. There's probably 3 times more activity and people downtown than before the streetcar and most business owners along the line have noticed.

Sorry, naysayers, you lost this one.

PS - David Johnson doesn't count the riders, You goofy assed tinfoil hatters.
