TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! CROSSROADS BAR BIZ DESPERATELY ADVOCATES AGAINST KANSAS CITY DEMOCRACY AND POPULAR CITIZEN INITIATIVE PETITION TO STOP KANSAS CITY LIQUOR CODE CHANGE!!!

The fight against Kansas City liquor code change is heating up and here's the latest bit of Crossroads Bar Biz social media advocacy that continues the debate.

Take a peek at a sponsored missive making the rounds among KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS:

Unidentified Crossroads Bar District Supporters Say: "If you are out and about in KC this weekend, DO NOT SIGN ANY PETITIONS on this issue. The people against our ordinance will say that our ordinance limits the ability of property owners to keep liquor licenses out of their neighborhood. In reality, our ordinance ensures that MORE voices are heard. Our ordinance only limits those individuals who seek to singlehandedly dictate what happens in their neighborhood."

Again, we want to try to be objective with our coverage of this issue but it's worth nothing that this paid advocacy attempts to keep the voting public out of the decision making progress.

Like it or not, citizen initiative petitions represent one of the last remaining methods for voters to directly impact the political process @ 12th & Oak.

Now, after checking with a few insiders on this issue we have this to report . . .

TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY NEIGHBORHOOD ACTIVISTS IN THE CROSSROADS REVEAL THAT THEIR PETITION TO MAINTAIN CURRENT LIQUOR CODES HAS MET WITH RESOUNDING SUPPORT AND THE SIGNATURE COLLECTING PROCESS IS NEARLY COMPLETE!!!

And so, if there isn't a compromise put forward by the council soon . . . There is a compromise on the table but there's nothing inherently wrong with allowing voters to decide this issue which isn't a bad idea at all given that the measure could impact liquor codes not only in the Crossroads but throughout the city.

Comments

  1. The most effective argument to change the current ordinance is that KC is not very business friendly. We need to encourage entrepreneurs and help them to more easily navigate city hall and obtain licensing.

The current configuration of regulated industries is a joke and we need a modern approach to how restaurants and bars can be in compliance with the law. There was a promise of reform here years ago but that never happened.

But, just like TKC, I'm a realist. This will be a tough sell to those who don't have a vested interest and homeowners and voters generally want more regulation on bars not less.

Look for this to get straightened out before it comes to a vote. The petition will be dropped and the ordinance will be gutted. It's a bit of show that reveals how personal differences can be played out with political moves.

  2. Crossroads is an arts community. KCMO does not need another drinking community to go along with Westport and P&L District. City Hall should be reducing the number of liquor licenses available to the area and make sure they go going to establishments serving mostly food.

  4. The petition process has seen a revival as a direct result of an arrogant council and Mayor.

  5. Sign the petition. Don't destroy the Crossroads with more violence destination bars!!!

  6. Take the trolley to P&L for the bars.

  7. Give a Crossroads liquor license to anybody who wants one. The best way to look at most of the art is drunk.

Don't want Crossroads turning into Westport, that's why I signed the petition and ordered my wife to do the same.
