TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY LIQUOR LICENSE BATTLE BEGINS AS PETITION LAUNCHED AGAINST JOLIE JUSTUS BOOZY LEGISLATION!!!

A controversial bit of Kansas City liquor license legislation is now the focus of a recently filed petition which attempts to control the saturation of local bar scene.

To wit . . .

FIRST ON TKC!!! BAR OWNERS AND NEIGHBORHOOD ACTIVISTS IN THE CROSSROADS HAVE LAUNCHED A PETITION AGAINST LEGISLATION THAT WOULD LOOSEN KANSAS CITY LIQUOR LICENSE RULES & REGS!!!

Here's the hastily passed ordinance from City Council . . .

#160281 - Amending Chapter 10, Code of Ordinances, by repealing Sections 10-104, 10-106, and 10-214 in order to maximize input from as many eligible consenters as possible when they are asked to give their consent for a liquor license to be issued as required by ordinance.

The petition was filed late Friday afternoon by a group led by Brad Nicholson which has put MILLIONS into the Crossroads over the past few years and seemingly hopes to avoid a flood of booze purveyors that wouldn't have to live up to the same standards he and his partners were required to achieve.

Behind the scenes . . .

Denizens and neighbors from the Crossroads reached out to 4th District Council Lady Jolie Justus and pushed for a paltry "one week hold" on the legislation in order to talk it over but the politico didn't want to engage in a conversation with this contingent and instead pushed for the passing of the ordinance over objections.

And now . . .

CROSSROADS NEIGHBORS AND INVESTORS STRIKE BACK AGAINST COUNCIL LADY JOLIE JUSTUS WITH A PETITION THAT WILL PUT A 40-DAY HOLD ON HER ORDINANCE AND MAINTAIN THE CURRENT STANDARDS OF THE KANSAS CITY LIQUOR CODE!!!

In fairness, on paper loosening government regs sounds like a great idea BUT might also be unfair if all of Kansas City bars & restaurants aren't playing by the same rules.

Moreover . . . An uncharacteristic ram through by Council Lady Justus CLEARLY underestimated reax to an ordinance that could change liquor codes across the city and now is the subject of the latest citizen initiative petition fight.

Developing . . .

  1. Jolie couldn't wait a week to talk?

did they not come to her "office hours" at the bar?

KC needs more conversation but it seems like we have enough crappy bars.

I didn't like the way this was spun into a "small business issue" which it clearly is not. The impact on neighborhoods should be the first priority.

    1. It is a small business issue. The bars, grocery stores and event space owners are individual small businesses trying to create jobs in KC.

  3. KC loves small business.

Willing to slap investors in the face after they pour in millions.

That is the cost of putting money into any downtown establishment for any new restaurant or bar. Sadly, this streetcar won't fix this.

  4. jolie was okay when she was in Jeff City because the democrats didn't matter much. In KC Mo. her bad ideas are dangerous.

  5. Kansas City is bad for business. Period. Don't have to worry about this in Kansas. Everybody plays by the same rules.

  6. WOW! Talk about "spin". READ THE ACTUALLY ORDINANCE. Brad Nicholson doesn't own Tom's Town. He owns half the buildings in the Crossroads and for quite some time has said who and who could not open a business in the crossroads. Tom's Town had to actually kiss his ass more ways than one to work out an agreement for them to open with limited hours. This ordinance is intended to let more of the neighborhood have a say vs one single parcel owner having the power to deny each consent form sent his way from Regulated Industries. Tony doesn't always offer the correct angle of the story but at least he offers the link for you to read for yourself.

  7. ^^^ Sly consultant. Not convincing. But make sure to bill him for two hours for that comment.

  8. It's not spin, Tiny just posts whatever nonsense he gets fed by the small cadre of tea-party malcontents who still communicate with him, most of whom have about a very little understanding of what they're talking about. They latch on to one or another half-fact that stokes their RAGE! and since their circle of influence is minuscule, the only person they can get to address their made-up grievances is a blogger who once reported that there was a secret Ebola epidemic sweeping KC.

Fact checking and background research are for real reporters. Tiny runs a gossip colum for small-time conspiracy loonies.

And yet your hate of TKC doesn't stop you from reading EVERY DAY first thing in the morning. Sniff the farts. Taste the goodness.

  10. Jolie is a joke. Too bad that she can't run on her own merits instead of making her campaign all about her lgbt issues - Without that she doesn't have much of a record.

  11. I support Jolie. She is looking out for small business.

  12. kc = korruption city!

  13. People are seriously pissed off at Sly and his subservient lackeys raping the taxpayers and citizens of this town.

That should totally obvious by now.

  14. When did the star stop reporting on city hall? As much as i hate it. I get most of my kc news here. Saves me the time of skimming through all the tv crap. What has happened to our city?

  15. How we gonna get enough booze to keep the town first class and major league if we don't keep opening bars and booze sellers everywhere.
Have you seen the bar car on the Trolley Train. I hear it is gonna be first class. With the not for profit walk around drinking law we can ride until we puke and then drink a little more --if the train is moving the puke is left behind. That's why I voted for the Toot toot.

  16. Brad Nicholson is the one person the ordinance is meant to stop. Getting a liquor license in the Crossroads means bowing down to kiss the ring of Nicholson to gain the support of his cronies.

  18. Crazed white men need to be stopped? Pat Klein keeps getting promoted with no skillset whatsoever. That's a real evildoer! Where's the ordinance directed at him and the McIntyre twins?

  19. Jolie loves local bars. She just wants to see more of them. Nothing wrong with that!

  20. I like the idea of easier accommodations for Kc bars but the practice of it is sure to cause chaos.

  21. BREAKING!!!!! JOLIE JUSTUS, THE MOST OPENLY AND VOCALLY PRO-URBAN, PRO-STREETCAR. PRO-DEVELOPMENT CANDIDATE WAS ELECTED BARELY 1 YEAR AGO BY 77% OF VOTERS IN THE COUNCIL DISTRICT THAT ACCOUNTS FOR OVER 50% OF THE CITY'S TAXBASE OVER 50% OF THE CITIES JOBS AND CONTAINS EASILY 75% OF THE THINGS THAT MAKE KC UNIQUE!!!! KCEB HAZ THE DEETZ!!!!!!

  22. Trust me the 4th district will vote her out.
Jolie Justus along with SlyDog want to be able to counteract the will of voters , neighborhood activists and property owner.
The police already say KCMO ,especially Midtown is saturated with to many bars.
They can barely handle the problems that 3am licenses create.
We have had it with Jolie Justus ,her staff ,her public drunkenness and the fact fact she will not honor the will of those who voted for her .Jolie Justus is soon to become political history.
