SHOCK!!! DOWNTOWN TRANSIT CHAOS: DRIVER HITS KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR AND CAUSES EPIC DAMAGE!!!

Early evening breaking news brings more trouble for the streetcar, drivers and denizens inside the loop . . . Here's the aftermath of a streetcar crash at Truman Road.

For tonight . . .

THE KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR WAS HIT BY A CAR AND SUFFERED SERIOUS DAMAGE!!!

One report from the scene . . .

Streetcar service was delayed while police investigate. Buses were being brought in to help transport passengers.

One passenger said that the streetcar driver appeared to be following the right procedures at the time of the wreck. Another passenger reported seeing the driver of the car run a red light.

Witnesses report that three people in a car were on their way to the Tech N9ne concert at the Power and Light District when the driver struck the Streetcar.

Streetcar and car full of teens collide

Like it or not, this gives credence to the call to cut off Downtown traffic on Mainstreet in favor of rail, cyclists and pedestrians.

Nine people were on the streetcar at the time of the crash.

No injuries reported so far.

The streetcar that was damaged is reportedly able to power up and get back to the station, after that happens streetcar service will resume.

Accordingly . . .

THE WAR BETWIXT DRIVERS AND THE STREETCAR CONTINUES IN DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY AS THE TOY TRAIN SUFFERS DAMAGE!!!

  6. The $100M bus on rails doesn't have clear right of way like real lightrail system. Buses get into traffic accidents and apparently so do buses on rails.

  7. There were 9,000 people on the streetcar, not 9. Maybe 9 million.

  8. LoL at Street Car fail

Fail after fail after fail beyond all expectations

  9. You know it isn't cheap repairing that dumb Toy Street car, you talk about mega bucks fixing them. Parts have to come from Gay Paris France BTW.

Oh yeah, Lets' not leave out the Insurance rates going up after this at the Tax payers expense.

  10. if you go back and read about the old street cars here in kc ,they injured and killed many a mofo. you'll never catch me on that beer can

  11. KMBC is reporting that the traffic signal at Main and Truman was not working. Weather was not considered to be a factor; rather, engineers found.

  12. Jesus Christ this thing is just the gift that keeps on giving.

  13. I know this blog is fun but we need a more rational discussion of the streetcar and the many problems it has seen in the past few days. These crashes and break downs can not keep up.

I commend the KC Streetcar people with trying to provide good public information but the fact is that we might need to develop a legislative solution to protect everyone on main street. It's clear that what the city council has come up with so far isn't working.

  14. Curse of the Rigged Election now in full blow back mode.

  15. Too bad I wasn't on that street car, perfect chance to act like you were tossed and bump your head, pretend you can't remember shit and sue the crap out of the city for 50 grand or so.

  16. This bastard is cursed!

  17. Good start, keep it going5/26/16, 7:48 PM

100 thousand riders was a great start but this doesn't look good for businesses downtown.

    ReplyDelete
  18. You just know some folks in Spain must be laughing their balls off at this thing.

    ReplyDelete
  19. i jumped in my car and rushed downtown in time to have been a passenger just lucky

  21. I have been taking the streetcar everyday back and forth to work (at the company I own, that employs people downtown) and its always got people on it , most of them also doing business. The rest are mostly tourists. You anonymous, unproductive, cowardly fear mongers have no idea what you're talking about. This woman ran a red light, and looked on something when she got out. Keep being worthless.

    2. Stevie, maybe you're the one on something; the driver shown on KMBC was a male who was very articulate, not a "woman who seemed to be on something."

  22. Fuck, now they're going to buy a fifth streetcar.

    ReplyDelete
  23. We already have a fifth streetcar on hand for instances like this.

Tony is right. He disparaged Steve Vockrodt for tweeting that vehicle traffic should be diverted away from Main Street but I've been saying that since 2012.

Like it or not, we paid $140M for this starter line and the streetcars cost about $4.3M apiece so to protect our investment and improve transit times, cars should be directed toward Baltimore, Walnut, and Grand.

Hopefully folks will remember his and reject future expansions. I hope we can put our resources toward more important needs like reducing violence and improving education in the urban core.

    1. Well Brian to reduce violence and improve education we'll obviously need to get rid of the niggers.

      What's your plan?

  25. Afro Engineering at its finest. Ready to vote yet peckerwoods?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Is the streetcar line buying Main Street? How much are they paying to use a public street?

    ReplyDelete
  27. The 318 proves KC's lack of innovation. In the era of driverless cars, Uber and clean efficient busses we decide to bring back 70 year old transit and call it innovation. What? I just don't get it. Surely the hipsters and real estate dudes can be more thoughtful and innovative.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Wonder what the businesses and restaurants on Main Street would think about banning cars from the road? Bet this is not what they climbed all aboard for, a business killer streetcar.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I imagine most would probably welcome it their business primarily comes from folks walking 2-3 blocks or riding the streetcar. If the streetcar shuts down foe 2-5 hours every time a car hits it, then protect our investment and move the cars.

  29. "I hope we can put our resources toward more important needs like reducing violence and improving education in the urban core"

    LOL right sure they will.

    TOOT TOOT! All ABOARD!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Absolutely agree with Steven here.

The streetcar is safe and a few minor glitches are to be expected. We've had 100,000 riders so far. We should count that as a success and stop looking for failures.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Three days straight of the toy train misery that nobody wanted... I can't wait to see what's in store tomorrow. TOY TRAIN EXPLODES?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Every day it seems like there is a streetcar story. And each story mentions that there are only a hand full of riders on the trolley at the time of the incident. How the in world does Dave Johnson come up his claim of 10,000 riders per week? It is way past time for the media to take him to task on this instead of just repeated his farfetched claim.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Epic Landslide Victory of 555 voters approve downtown boondoggle!

    ReplyDelete
  34. The downtown property evaluations bullshit if exposed could bring the whole fucking corrupt scam down.

    ReplyDelete
  35. No downtown property values are rising!

    LMAO!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Outside of KCMO no one gives a shit what happens with the streetcar. Also, wishing or not wanting to have it is not going to make it go away.

    ReplyDelete
  37. What is funny though is Tony's obsession with it. Makes one wonder if he really hates it, kind of like the guy who pretends he's not gay so he lashes out at other guys.

    ReplyDelete
  38. ^^^ TKC gay for the train? Now that is content I want to read!

But it's a popular topic and a lot of people are interested in it. I think it's obvious that most people want it to work and are excited to see KC trying new things.

It's the politics involved in the question of expansion that gets people really riled up.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Gay has nothing to do with bad product. Shoddy craftsmanship. Rip -off on tax people, and you want more. Greed. Shove it down our throat
We are too stupid to see it.. Put a dildo up our ass and say its candy. Mother may I... We are not going to take it any more!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I was on the corner waiting to cross when this wreck happened. The guy in the car ran the light and ran it by a lot. I really don't think this dumbass running a light should cause this much backlash.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Rational 744. Last place on earth about having a rational dission here, especially on the street car.

Tony sits in his boxers all day, eating Doritos trying to come up with another malady attributed to the street car.

    Soon, it's connection to ISIS.

    ReplyDelete
  42. ^^^ You dont think David Johnson is connected to ISIS? Say something - anything negative to him about the streetcar. Watch what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wait, didn't one of the toy trains break down earlier this week and now this? Lack of fucking foresight. This pet project was nothing more than a gimmick to attract development. Meanwhile our infrastructure is literally crumbling. Fuck this town.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Looks like a bunch of bullshit from the 1900's.

    ReplyDelete
  45. My very favorite part is how the buses have to keep rescuing the train passengers.

Electrical fail, mechanical fail, traffic collision...buses to the rescue.

If we'd only known people could be moved around downtown with the buses we already had, think of all the money we could have saved.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I've seen the streetcar trying to beat a read light a couple times.

    ReplyDelete
  47. red light sorry

  48. Ban teen driving.

  49. hmmmm....good place to leave a unattended backpack or a churches fried chicken box bomb.

  50. 10 people on at time of last crash. 9 this time. I thought thousands of people were riding street car.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Its only going to get worse - Won't be long before that Toy Train falls completely thru a KCMO Street 15 to 20 feet !!
Up Next, weight of KC Toy Train buckles KC Street and falls thru massive giant Sink hole !!!!
Watch and see if that doesn't happen, especially with all this rain !
that and people Electrocuted by those overhead wires, when they come crashing down on WET pavement during a storm , its comin, watch and see !!!
***** Meanwhile, Las Vegas is enjoying its MONORAIL from the south end of Vegas to the North end without any Glitches with their MONORAIL !!!!!
