SMARTER KANSAS CITY INSIDERS ARE WAITING FOR THE FINE PRINT AND REALIZE THAT ALL COSTS ARE PASSED ON TO CONSUMERS AND CITY HALL STILL HAS TO BACK THE BONDS ON THIS PROPOSED DEAL!!!

Nevertheless . . . "Free" sounds good to most people and local newsies won't be able to ask many question about this plan until the ballot language is finalized but rhetoric about KC avoiding airport payments is already floating around in much the same way so many residents THINK this town doesn't pay for the Sprint Center.
Thankfully, the effort to move this past the voters seems to be doomed and dedicated City Hall Insiders tell us . . .

City Hall Insiders reveal that just about all the members of the Airport Committee told Southwest on their recent journey to Dallas that they didn't want to work with VanLoh.
Amid long term and justified grudges, most of the Airport committee claimed that they couldn't move ahead with any plan that involved the Kansas City airline honcho . . . Call it coincidence but the guy was gone a week later.
Combine that interesting tidbit behind the scenes of a "retirement" announcement with talk of upcoming partnership deets and the single-terminal flight plan seems like its starting to take shape.
This story just gets better and we hope to have more later in the day . . . But for now, word of the "freebie" deal is flying far and wide but landed FIRST here @ TKC thanks out our KICK-ASS BLOG COMMUNITY who wants voters involved in the discussion and the process unlike the current Mayoral Administration which seemingly would like every bit of public policy to fly under the radar.

ReplyDeleteI think you have to take the airlines at their word here. If they are are going to foot the bill for the thing, then KC would be dumb not to take them up on their offer. We need partners in making the new terminal a reality and getting the support from Southwest AND OTHERS is going to be a bit deal moving forward.

9:08 is dead on the money. If Southwest kills a bunch of flights from KC they will then say, Hey we don't owe you clowns nothing since we have very few flights landing there." If the airlines want to foot the bill then let them take out the loan to build the damn thing.

ReplyDeleteLyin' Sam Graves stated back on November 18, 2013 that he supported Southwest Airlines when it came to the KCI terminal. And, yep, you guessed, a Southwest PAC gave Sam Graves $10,000 after he said that. Now I guess he thinks Southwest is clueless, but hey, thanks for the check guys!
ReplyDeleteIf it's truly "free," then go ahead with the renovation, keeping the convenient parking and easy walk to the gate. Even with the made up numbers showing new is cheaper (remember how they had to go back to the drawing board when the first numbers showed new cost more?), it won't matter if the city isn't paying anything. Turn it into a shopping mall if you want, but keep the short walk from car to gate.

How can people in KCMO, after everything you've witnessed, still fall for some asinine scheme promising more "free" stuff?
Free stuff that you neither ask for, nor require to normally function.
If it's truly free for the public, then doesn't logic call for the destruction of the entire city? I mean, just think about it. Here we are putting up with very old buildings, bridges, streets, sewers, water pipes, etc., when we could be enjoying brand spanking new stuff! Tear it all down I say! And to paraphrase a recent Ruckus panelist...."Just think of all the jobs we'll create!"
But please extend me one favor....could we tear down City Hall first? It's only fitting.

ReplyDeleteThe formula should be very simple. If the airport will not pay for itself without creative bullshit accounting then how do you trust those planning it? We are not building a national monument here. This thing is to get planes in, load them and get full planes out. Anything not directly related to those basic functions are not necessities. How about we knock of building the crystal palace and trying to bullshit travelers who don't know what a shit hole KC is and get this thing done taking the economical route. Everything doesn't have to be fucking gay in this town.

ReplyDeleteSitting at the airport this morning, and the obvious signs of purposeful neglect are everywhere. At 6am, it's obvious little cleaning was done last night. The in-gate restroom has feces smeared everywhere, and by the look and smell it's been there for a while. The "easy" touch-ups (a little paint here, new carpet there) are being completely avoided. Add to these the fact that the busiest two carriers were placed side by side in the same terminal, ensuring crowding while leaving one terminal a virtual ghost town and the other boarded up. Hopefully, the public sees through the City's obvious attempts at manipulation and refuses to be played, and further, holds those responsible to account for their unethical behavior.
