TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! SMALL ARMY OF KANSAS CITY CONSULTANTS PAID NEARLY $10 MILLION FOR SINGLE-TERMINAL AIRPORT SCHEME!!!

Before a single shovel has hit the ground, our blog community has uncovered the high price of promoting and advocating the controversial single-terminal airport.

To wit . . .

KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTERS BRING EPIC DOX REVEALING MILLIONS WORTH OF KANSAS CITY AIRPORT CONSULTING FEES IN ORDER TO TOUT A NEW SINGLE-TERMINAL PLAN THAT NOBODY WANTS!!!

Here's the word . . .

"Attached to this email are the invoices from three consultants working at the airport. I was trying to get to a number on how much we have paid for consulting to date on a new single terminal. I finally asked the city treasurer to give me a print out of expenditures. The invoices and ledgers are below. I total the ledger printouts to equal $8,757,913 . . . There are surely additional invoices which haven’t been reported yet."

Again, we have learned of MILLIONS MORE on the way in upcoming ordinances before a single shovel is overturned for the single-terminal . . . And while all of this is perfectly legit, it's an unspoken part of the process that most locals aren't privy to thanks the MSM politeness.

What's important here is that travelers and residents have ALREADY spoken loud and clear on this plan but now an army of suits GETTING PAID WITH TAXPAYER CASH are working to shift opinion.

For this kind of money . . . They should be handing out $20s . . .

In fairness, just about everybody connected to the discussion about the airport is in it to get paid in one way or another.

And, like it or not, only our blog community is the FIRST to provide a look at HOW KANSAS CITY DEMOCRACY WORKS on the topic of the new airport and just about every other local topic.

Developing . . .

Good information here and here's my suggestion TK.

This is something that everyone can do no matter if they vote for Kansas City or not.

When these consultants hit the airwaves or local articles, we need to ask them who they work for? There should be some disclosure requirement and so far the mainstream media is being really lackadaisical about enforcing it.

So it's up to people to ask.

  4. This is the natural consequence of a petition demanding we study what everyone knows: KCI fucking sucks. It's an airport model that was outdated the moment it was built, it's not convenient or pleasant or functional. They tried to tell you that for free, but Coffeycakes and a handful of people signing papers theiry don't understand outside the Brookside Price Chopper know best!

Thanks a lot (brand new KCMO) Citizens for "Responsible" Government. You just cost the actual taxpayers 9 mil.

  10. I'll tell you this, no other project will bankrupt Kansas City like the new airport.

    Believe it.

    That kinda sucks.

  12. I did not see a W-2 for you Tony for 2015?

    No wonder you are pissed.

Dependents making less than $3,000 do not have to claim income on their parents return.

Why would you see Tony's W-2 in the first place Sly James consultant?

    Is he running for office?

    Doubtful.

Looks you just told us Sly is doing some shitty opposition research that can't keep track of all the lawns the Mexican mows during the day.

    Bwahahahaahaaha!

  14. 8:32, you must never fly. For those of us who regularly fly out of KCI, it is one of the most convenient airports in the U.S.!! Don't screw it up Sly!!!!

  15. He's the over/under on the airport.

It creates jobs. Isn't that what the government keeps telling us it's supposed to do? Create jobs for citizens? This is one project that will DEFINITELY deliver on those promises.

Some of you may not like it but those consultant contracts MEAN JOBS. Not just for consultants but for their support staff and all the services they use in turn. The problem is the people selling it have no real skill at convincing the public and that's why this money is somewhat shocking because the public outreach has been horrible and there are very few people they have convinced. So in that sense, I guess KC has spent too much.

But the bottom line is that a new airport WILL create jobs and it already has. That's the line that City Hall needs to stress in the future and what's funny is that the consultants will be reading this post and changing their message in the future thanks to this blog which was posted for free.

  17. There is a meeting Wednesday night, April 13th, at the Plaza Library, 4801 Main, at 6:30. Local firms will present an alternative plan to totally remodel what we have and save $400,000,000.

  19. It creates short-term jobs for out of town construction workers brought in by Dunn/Burns et al on the cheap. Then the new tech will cost us engineering jobs, ticket agent jobs, skycap jobs, baggage handler jobs, etc. And the tech will be managed in India. BUT Van Loh and Sly will get their names on a plaque.

  20. "Consultants" propose the most expensive projects knowing that they will get a bigger cut in the design and project management of the deal. Instead of looking at what makes sense and what is affordable, they'll shoot for the moon in hopes of reaping a high percentage of a high dollar project. Look at the recent Hickman Mills Bond, obviously on a lot smaller scale, but it was the consultants who proposed a lot of unneeded remodeling and helped to SELL it to the uninformed community - now they'll clean up on their percent of the work do be done. A HUGE waste of tax payer dollars. KCI needs help, I fly all the time and the waiting areas for American are cramped and not flyer friendly, but to tear it all down and start over is probably not the answer.

  21. Since 1989 ive flown into and out of my home airport here in KC nearly 600 times. The current layout is no longer convenient for me. The place is over crowded, lacks amenities, has too few restrooms, and doesnt seem to meet the needs of airlines. Terminal A is closed and Terminal C is not nearly as busy as Terminal B. We are already close to a single terminal concept. Its time to get into the future and provide options for kc to be a possible hub once again. Done right we wont have to stand in extra long TSA lines. Take a look at how convenient the relatively new terminal in Indianapolis works. It could be a good model for us. At least from a passenger / customer perspective. And definitely new. Building on top of existing infrastructure keeps us in the past.

  22. came back from a recent trip around midnight. sat on the damn blue bus 30 mins. Sure getting to the bus took 30 secs, so convenient but the next 30 mins showed me another reason our airport sucks. The buses don't want to run after 12 so she was being nice and trying to cram as many ppl on it as possible since she couldn't tell them when the next bus MIGHT come by.
KC = Always a dollar short and a day late. It's time to update this airport, nobody knows what door they will open to let you out, speaking of which they have to actually staff. sigh, if you like this airport you probably use it once a yr and never have to wait at baggage claim!
