TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! ANOTHER ROYALS WIN: MAYOR SLY JAMES ANNOUNCES PLANS TO BUILD DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY BASEBALL STADIUM!!!

Longtime supporters of the ongoing Downtown Kansas City Renaissance have cause for celebration today after a monumental announcement from Mayor Sly James about a new construction project.

To wit . . .

MAYOR SLY JAMES AND THE GREATER KANSAS CITY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE JUST ANNOUNCED PLANS TO BUILD A DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY BASEBALL STADIUM!!!

Here's word from the press conference that just concluded moments ago . . .

Mayor Sly James said the plan for a new baseball stadium in Downtown Kansas City is more than a celebration of new development but a sign of Kansas City's ongoing resurgence as an international city. “This is the first step of what I believe will be a truly historic transformation of the entire city,” James said. “Building owners and developers have completed, started or announced more than $1.6 billion in construction in the KC Streetcar district since the route was announced three years ago. I’m confident the entire city will find new momentum as the KC Streetcar AND THIS NEW BASEBALL STADIUM energizes the heart of our community.”

The news just keeps getting better . . .

THE NEW KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN BASEBALL STADIUM WILL NOT REQUIRE TAX BREAKS OR TIFS TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT!!!

Instead, with such a large influx of Royals fans from Johnson County, there is support from a bi-state cooperative effort that will seek a corporate opt-in levy from businesses that recently relocated away from KCMO and into Kansas.

About the voluntary tax and the new stadium, a Royals fan said:

"Just like the earnings tax, I'm excited to support Kansas City's revitalization efforts. What's great about KC is that the local government works really hard to strike a responsible balance between the funding of infrastructure and neighborhood services along with high-profile projects like this upcoming stadium that will attract tourists like me!"

A Kansas City developer added:

"All of us see this as a missing piece in the Kansas City convention business but in so many other ways,” KC developer Hans Gruber said. "It's an anchor for the entertainment district, it’s an anchor for the arts district, for Kauffman center, and allows us to market ourselves to tourists which otherwise would pass us by."

Construction on the new Downtown Kansas City Stadium is slated to start later this year with additional traffic notes and guidance for restaurants and other businesses in and around the loop that might expect some minor delays and inconveniences.

Developing . . .

  2. I think the impact on nearby business might be greater than expected but the benefits to the KC area will make up the difference.

Truly, this is the missing piece for Kansas City and will finally push us over the top and make us more competitive.

I didn't take this kind of talk seriously when they said pretty much the same thing about the streetcar or the hotel or even the airport but THIS really is an important development that will change things for KC.

Way to go Mayor James! You are KC's best Mayor ever.

Not an April Fools Joke people. You obviously aren't familiar with the work of Hans Gruber. He's a longtime Kansas City resident and earned international acclaim for his work in a renovation at Nakatomi Plaza in Los Angeles. Do you research people. This is happening and it's going to help Kansas City!

  13. This is a joke b/c they have to tear down the building in which I own a unit. And tear out the pool/parking for the other building. This was plausible in the early 2000s when everything was abandoned.

  14. Ha! Ha!

How's your write-in campaign for County Executive going?

  20. I think everyone in America can see why Kansas City relies so heavily on the E Tax. Without it they could not burn cash like a bunch of drunken sailors. I don't care if the numb nuts of KC built it, but please don't come out here in the county mooching for money for the God Damn thing. Use the city's split from the tow trucks that are going to cash in.

  22. A lot of people are going to be left looking for apartments. Who owns the real estate tin that area? What historical landmarks will be destroyed in the name of progress? Talk about a traffic jam nightmare in and out of downtown....eyeshadow!

  32. The original plan for Royals Stadium sited it downtown. They say traffic problems made that plan unworkable, but I suspect that a mover or shaker or two had managed to buy lots of land near the 70/435 exchange. Regardless, traffic should not be an excuse now.

  33. I heard they found out the Royals were all Queers. Don't know if they meant the ones in Britain or KC but it's what I heard.

It just goes to show how far into the fantasyland Kool Aid James has managed to take his little band of sycophants.
