Dallas News Blog: New Texas schools official changed his name after leaving Kansas City board
Here are the deets . . .
Airick Leonard West is a departing member of the Kansas City School Board, a young community activist and former board president who helped improve the persistently struggling district. AJ Crabill is the new, yet-to-be-announced deputy commissioner of governance at the Texas Education Agency.
Also, they’re the same guy.
The agency confirmed Tuesday that Crabill is the former Kansas City official after The Dallas Morning News inquired about a possible name change; his appointment will be revealed soon. Education Commissioner Mike Morath chose him to fill the position, one of five new deputy roles the former Dallas school trustee created as part of a massive reorganization of top leadership.
“As of now, AJ Crabill has been hired as the deputy commissioner of governance,” agency spokeswoman DeEtta Culbertson said.

The article goes on to note that Mr. Crabill doesn't make a lot of mention of his time in Kansas City . . . So it's fair to ask about how this reflects on his work in Kansas City if he doesn't yet seem to want his career deets noted with his new moniker via social media as of this writing.
Meanwhile, Kansas City welcomes a new collection of write-in school board members to a provisionally accredited district while MSM news only reports more talk of promises and reform.

ReplyDeleteKCMO never knew the real AL WEST (if that was a real name) as he constantly spun tall tales about his past.
E.g.
Born to a poor single mother in KCMO.
Removed from mother's care, placed in foster care in southern MO.
Age 16, left foster family though they wanted to adopt him.
Returned to KCMO area.
Graduated from Shawnee Mission East, said he cared for himself and lived in an abandoned house.
Went to KU for one year, before dropping out to work full-time. This didn't stop him from continually listing "University of Kansas School of Engineering" as his college education on resumes.
After briefly working for a computer services company in Lenexa, the company was acquired by another firm. Mr. West told students that he sold his technology company and got filthy rich. But, the story goes, his life of riches in Johnson County didn't fulfill him, so he dedicated himself to helping young people in the urban core. This supposedly filthy rich man lived in a dilapidated house whose front door had been knocked off it's hinges, south of the 18th and Vine area. More recently he's been living with several other people in a small house near 81st and Hickman Mills Drive.
TKC broke the news that while President of the School Board, West had an outstanding arrest warrant due to unpaid vehicle tickets/failure to appear. He currently is delinquent on Jackson County personal property taxes.
Mr. West is not stupid. He knows his charade in KCMO is over, and in order to hide his past from his current Texas victims, he needed to bury AL West.
P.S. Too bad about that KCMO student scholar who was found murdered at the 4 Acre Motel off Hickman Mills Drive.
I think the kids in KC are safer now that he is gone.

If you work for the public, you're the definition of shady. People don't get involved with government because their motivated, industrious or capable of anything else. They get in because they are shady and their misdeeds will go unchallenged. The question is who among these folks is NOT shady.

He upgraded in my opinion and despite his shortcomings, which we all bear, he deserves a second chance. He is smart and well spoken. People who dont have these qualities thrive in Kansas City. ReplyDeleteYou can watch the symposium that was held in Texas that the article refers to. They clearly say he is a *graduate* of KU. I think that is Morath who introduces him. Morath said he has family in Kansas City, so that might be how they were connected.
