Kansas City Seyz 'Adios' To Manny Lopez

Thanks to the readers who sent notes about this one . . . TKC knew Manny growing up, the article doesn't note that he often identified as a Republican even though he was very pro-union and was a rather strident conservative Catholic which are just few of the many interesting things about the guy who was one of the area's first Westside biz pioneers. His daughters will continue to run his namesake restaurant which has found its niche in a crowded Latino foodie marketplace with hipsters searching for an untouched Latino oasis and other consumers more familiar with the Southwest section of the Applebee's menu. 1. My dog died. He once pissed on the fire hydrant in front of Applebees. Telegrams are rolling in from K-9s all over the world.

  3. Not a big fan of his place. Last time I eat there was 12 years ago saw a cockroache on the wall. Never been back.

  4. That's a great family, and KC is better because of Manny's clan. No doubt, his Rememberences, Rosary & Mass will be well attended. People of all faiths and races, all measure of wealth, and a wide span of ages called him friend. The civic and cultural endeavors are his large legacy, but second to his genuine loving care and service to his "family" (actual relatives, dining patrons and friends).

  5. 5:01 the pests (human and other) are in the finest hotels, resorts, and private homes. I've worked residential and commercial cleaning and renovations enough to know the pests can be eradicated in cycles, but rarely do they ever NOT return in ANY environ where humans or food frequent. Absent other FOODS, even our shedding cells and fluids ATTRACT ants, mosquitoes, roaches and rodents. These dirty dudes are thug tuff to control in dense people populated areas.

Those trash trucks stopping by, cardboard boxes with deliveries, and PATRONS with a unknown (hey, maybe intentioned) tagalongs in purse or pocket can
reintroduce another round of roach risk.

Yeah, we've all been munching buggies and their parts with other unmentionables in candy bars and peanut butter and soooooo much more for a long while.

  8. RIP Manny. I will say that he did run decent business for awhile. Food wasn't that great and service kind of went downhill over the years. Nevertheless, Manny was a guy who tried.

  9. I say you've gotta respect a guy like Manny Lopez!

As was mentioned, over the years plenty of other places sprung up, but for some time this guy's place was a destination.

    Pioneer is right.
