CRAIG GLAZER: ROCK IS DEAD!!!

Quick note from our pal Craig puts the music scene in perspective and offers a unique overview of American pop culture from one of Kansas City media's power players. Checkit:

Craig Glazer: Why Did Rock N' Roll Die???

Well maybe its just ROCK or even Metal music. More so rock. If you are a 'boomer' you remember the 'British Invasion' of the 60's. The Beatles and groups like Dave Clark. Later super stars like The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin. All gone and sadly many forgotten.
If you told me in the 70's or 80's that rock would soon be dead I would have never believed it.

What the hell happened? Yes hip-hop and rap took over in the early 80's and for another decade plus there was rock, urban and of course country battling it out on radio and at theaters and concert halls.
Rock had so many songs that delivered a message. "Come on people smile at each other."."Give peace a chance"...and thousands of love songs as well as 'feel good' music.' Young people had their 'summer songs' ..."the younger girl keeps a rolling past my mind"...tops down on the cars..kids pounding out the beat on the cars dashboards and seats...smiles all around. Good times.

The world changed. Hip Hop brought us songs and sounds of violence and unrest, anger. Rap pretty much the same. The messages put out by the sounds of the 60's through the early 90's died out. Life seemed to get more complicated. Social media made everyone a judge and jury on everyone else and everything in their lives. We have our own songs and music picked out to be played by us not the radio. So radio fell hard and even MTV stopped playing music for the most part and went to movies and series, nothing to do with rock anymore.

We now live in a world filled with too much anger, hate and fear. Young people's opportunities are much more limited today, good jobs and pay are hard to find for the average person. Sure we all started out at minimum wage jobs but promotions and chances to start our own business were more available. Parents seemed to be more involved in kids lives and direction during the rock era. Today its too much every man for himself. Too many jobs place the young person in front of a computer hitting a keyboard all day in a cubical. Seems our largest young people's workforce are located in restaurants as waiters, bartenders or food servers. It was like that a few decades ago, but most moved upward and onward. Not so much today. So the joy of life and smiles has in many ways died out for too many young people. Less to smile and laugh about today. So who needs songs and music about love and the beach and world peace. The world got more violent and angry. Life seems just to hard for far too many young people today. Not all but most. Especially if you are not born into families with financial opportunities or a good two parent home. It's much more uphill and again not as much to cheer about.

So the message changed from a 'bright future' to a darker one. Make no mistake we all were worried about our futures in the rock era but there seemed to be more hope, people were nicer to each other. We communicated with our peers. Today not nearly as much. Why go out and socialize you can meet people on facebook or with the newest app. Not the same.

So its now 'bye bye Miss American Pie...drove my chevy to the levy but the levy was dry...and good ole boys drinking whisky and rye oh this will be the day that I die.." and rock has died. Me, I don't care for its replacement much. Sure there are still some talented singers and bands out there but far less. We see concerts today with music and stars from long ago...AC/DC sells out, we still hear about one more Rolling Stones concert with guys on stage in their 70's. All but two Beatles are gone. Man I sure miss those old days of sun, wind in my face and the radio playing uplifting songs of new found love and life. Where did it all go?

  1. Agree with a lot of what Craig is saying but he's overlooking a key factor.

The public education system is what really killed rock 'n roll.

Think about it, parents and schools used to provide lessons for children to learn instrumentation and how to read music. Now that's not part of the curriculum because students can barely manage basic reading comprehension and math.

The music and culture reflects that and now we have techno and electronica where there is nothing evident but programming skill. That's the most popular international music because you don't have to learn any instrument. Just program a sound machine and come up with a manufactured beat. Sad but true, that's the future of music.

  2. What about jazz?

  3. Media power player my fat ass.

There is plenty of rock out there being recorded by both new and old artists and there is plenty of rock being played on the air waves and online. If you are still trying to find the rock of Chicago on the dial you wont be finding that. I will accept that white kids seem to think it is cool to act like coons and listen to that Watusi abba-dabba shit, but that is just what happens when there are no fathers at home with the balls to kick ass and take names.

  4. First of all, that lady of the night you have featured is just not up to par... Her thigh makes that bass guitar look like a ukeliele. Secondly, Craig Glazer is a dumbfuck lying bitch and his club is a shithole.

I think that's fattie pr0n star Siri. She may not look it but that woman could ride a dick like nobody's business in her day. She's appropriate because rock 'n' roll is just a euphemism for fucking.

  6. Rock is the largest selling music genre followed by country. The overwhelmingly largest buying demographic are those over 45 and they are dedicated to buying mostly catalogue music (70s, 80s, 90s) with some new artists with adult appeal, like Adelle.

Teeny boppers and young adults buy less than 7 percent of recorded music.

  7. It's far from dead, it just doesn't get the media/radio attention anymore.

Anyone needing proof that it still has a pulse should check out Robert Pollard and Guided By Voices at the Bottleneck next week.

They'll put on a show that will knock your Aunt Connie's socks off.

We'll never see the likes of a huge arena-filling rock band anymore, it just won't happen in the current landscape of music promotion... but maybe that's just as well... the true fans will hopefully still find and support the worthwhile bands.

  8. Glazer was a snitch back in the good olé days. The eternal snitch never dies.

  9. I don't know if anything went anywhere, but I know for sure, I wish you'd shut the fuck up. You're not a writer and in fact, you're not anything but a pathetic fucking snitch. Now show us you have some balls and just die, since music is alive and doing well.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The Kansas City atheist Coaltion has no position on this issue, it seems.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I say with no hesitation that Glazer is a much better writer than Jenae'nae... and he doesn't get to go to Harvard.

  12. Rock is not dead. The music that people like when live on, and music people don't like will fade away
Just like classical music. It's not dead, it's just that only the best has passed the test of time
Rock is now being supplanted by rap and r&b. but the best will always be around

  13. Who the fuck is Craig Glazer??

  14. Bob from Leawood4/26/16, 9:31 PM

This is a very interesting story. It clearly shows us that Glazer is really as stupid as we all think he is. So, Craig, it's like this, stick to your stories about skanky ho's and your jailhouse love affairs two things you for sure know about along with calling women cunts.

    ReplyDelete
  15. seems you shitbirds don't look at the charts. the top sellers are rap, r&b and techno house. rock is old news for boomers who don't buy shit anymore. adele is the queen of sales and she is more of R&b singer, not that guitar rock crap you old dirty whites love.

  16. The Gang @ Woodside4/26/16, 9:57 PM

Craig, you're so stupid …you went to Babies R Us and asked how much a black chick would cost for the night. But I will admit Craig; you're a person of rare intelligence. It's rare when you show any. You're in your 60's now, still seeking success, but success has nothing to worry about. You are proof, that evolution "CAN" fuck up. Not everyone was blessed with brains, and you're evidence of that. It so easy to see when Craig is lying as a friend of mine once said, just watch for his lips to move. Some day soon Craig, you will die and as much as I'd like to go to your funeral, and laugh at how the Devil pulled that "Sting" on you, I'll probably just go to work that day. I believe in business before pleasure.

    Now your retort, Tony.

  21. Craig, I grew up in the sixties, too. I have different memories. It was insane!! Assassinations, race riots, political demonstrations that make today's look tame by comparison. The music was the music of rebellion. We were vilified for listening to rock music. I was expelled from school for having "long hair". My wife was expelled for wearing pants! We were fighting against the fascism of conformity for its own sake.

The music of every generation has the same purpose. To rebel.

A young black man in Nashville gave me a ride one day, & he was playing rap music in the car. I had never heard it before. I couldn't understand the lyrics, but every once in a while the music would stop & the singer would say, "Well, fuck that!" I burst our laughing. He was highly offended. Apparently, I was supposed to be offended. I wasn't supposed to burst out into laughter. He was trying to rebel, & I wasn't impressed.

Young people rebelling. Its a right of passage.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Don't lie, you were never expelled for long hair nor was your wife.

  23. Nice story, Byron.

    Of course it never happened.

  24. As always Craig well done. Great read and very true. I loved the rock era it is dead. The replacement is weak.

  25. That's a Fact Jack4/27/16, 6:43 AM

Nice to see the two biggest liars in Kansas City trying to sell their bullshit. Both share a common desire to screw others out of their money while they both sit around and bitch that what they get isn't enough. To bad both not sharing a jail cell somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 6:39 Is Glazer again, that's his stock trying to pump up his story comment. So pathetic are his attempts at fame. Hopefully, someone will buy the rights to his book and make a movie showing him as the rat snitch unbearable POS he is. Yup, he was a gold badge carrying jackass all the way right up to being arrested for doing what he was ratting others out for. He was Vern Millers stoolie no doubt about it and Vern threw his worthless ass to the street soon as he fucked up. The problem is, Craig was too stupid to understand how bad he was screwed. That is till he went to prison and got an education on jailhouse sex.

  27. Craig Who ?

    ReplyDelete
  28. This is my third comment on 'Craig Glazer' I was FBI agent in charge during his 2001 indictment. We see all his records. Glazer was an undercover agent for the attorney general in the 70's. If that makes him a rat than all of us in law enforcement are rats. Craig had three cases that went to trial over 30 years. He never rolled on anyone or testified against a co defendant. In fact others rolled on him. So whoever you are you are wrong. I'm retired today. I learned one thing about rats, those who are rat finders like you sir are usually the rat or snitch. Guilt complex.

  29. Good post Tabman. I've known him for years. Good guy, loyal and always willing to help a friend. I guess this hater or haters think by constantly printing a lie they get some people to believe it. I see Craig at Woodside every week, he's well like there too. Its the way of the world as the story says. Lots of anger out there today.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Agreed Bobby. WTF you doing these days killer?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I hear Glazer on the radio quite a bit, for years. There is talk about Johnny Dares and I think Dare jokes that Glaze owes him some dough. There is always talk bout his love life and sex. Never ever heard bout him being a rat or turning friends in to the cops. Never. If that had merrit it would have come up at least once by now. So yeah its bullshit by some people or a person who just don't like Glaze.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The Real Truth4/27/16, 10:02 AM

Hot damn three Glazer posts in a row. My buddy says Tabman isn't who made this post and the post is going to be brought to the attention of certain people. Glazer, you think people are that stupid to buy into this fake post crap?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yes he does.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Very profound. Except the Rock-is-dead thing has been a trope for, oh, 30 or 40 years now.

Hey Craig: It's even worse than you think. You get a ticket now if you don't use your seatbelt.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 9:41 is fucking stupid as a rock. Billboard charts are not based on substantive music sales, longevity of sales, nor do charts reflect the investment in product. In short, charts reflect the "fad" and not the business. For example, White Christmas, by Bing Crosby, will never again appear on the charts, but even today it's annual sales out pace about 40 percent of the "hits" on the charts. Obviously the business end of the equation is hugely substantive because there is virtually no promotion and near no production costs involved in White Christmas. It is damn near all profit less royalties.

Now you can talk out your ass all you want, but trying to gain credibility will your baloney and slinging shit at boomers just makes you look like a fucking jack off.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yesterday the sun was shining, and the wind was blowing. I have no idea where you live Glazer, but you'd have to have your head up your ass to not notice the sun and wind almost every day. In fact, it's here today as well don't appear it has gone anywhere. Man, all those drugs and ass beatings have fried your brain.

    ReplyDelete
  37. So not a single person is going to Rockfest?

    ReplyDelete
  38. ^^^^^^Nope, Glazer can't go anymore after calling that lady a cunt.

    ReplyDelete
  39. ha, who did he call a cunt?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Things change,FM Radio changed, MTV changed and the interwebz changed everything with it's series of tubes that deliver information. What remains the same is record distribution from Warner Bro to Walmart and Best Buy. The two biggest retailers control the message in the music. The webz deliver garage band covers daily. Home spun rap is delivered daily. Go to Vegas and you'll find rock.
