TKC MUST READ!!! STILL NO LOVE FOR SO-CALLED 'FAIR WAGE' AMID FAILED KANSAS CITY FIGHT FOR 15!!!

Like it or not, our blog community is composed of some of the smartest and most well informed people in the metro.

Right now . . .

CHECK THIS EPIC FACT CHECK AGAINST KANSAS CITY'S FIGHT FOR $15 MINIMUM WAGE CITING BAD BIZ ACROSS THE NATION!!!

Here's a COMPREHENSIVE LIST that uses a great deal of data to dispel the arguments of local 'fair wage' fighters. Also, we're humbled at a generous nod from the author of this EPIC FACT CHECK.

Take a look:

It's hard to be humble

It's hard to be humble when your opponents are so vocal and so wrong. We won't rehash the last 18 months of minimum wage economic statistics and facts that we clearly demonstrated that an increase in the minimum wage would cause a decrease in employment among workers who needed the work the most.

We will, however, reiterate that we fully support low-to-no skilled laborers who must enter the workforce at some price level, lest they never gain the skills needed to rise above the minimum wage barrier. Our position is that these workers should be able to price their labor at ANY level THEY choose and not have some bureaucrat dictate what he believes the labor of someone he has never met is worth.

And so with that, we will merely state the results of the recent minimum wage hikes in some of our major cities. The following is for the leisure and hospitality sector (restaurants, hotels, etc.)

Washington DC -- after a measly increase in July of $1, to $10.50 an hour, employment ground to a halt. Their normal 2,000 annual job growth went to ZERO (yup, nada~)

Chicago - bumping their minimum wage $1.75 to $10 per hour. That caused their employment rate to cut itself in half to 1.1%. Oh... good luck with the addition of another 3-bucks scheduled over the next few years.

San Francisco & Oakland-- Nearly mimicking the Windy-City, employment slumped from 4.4% to 2.5%. And yes, they increased their minimum wage to $12.25 in the spring of last year and promise more job-cuts, I mean minimum wage increase (same thing), over the next several years.

Seattle-- No report would be complete without mention the Seattle area, the posterchild of socialist stupidity. They were at just under 5% (4.6%) in restaurant growth when their new minimum wage mandates hit workers squarely in the mouth. After the wage hike, the employment rate dropped to 1.8%, the worst level since 2009. Oh... if you think it was the economy of Washington state, think again. The state-wide employment for restaurant workers jumped to 6.3% everywhere else.

It's easy to parrot the arguments you heard from some leftist politician who already purchased your vote with his tripe. It's a little more difficult to argue with numbers that speak for themselves.

Tony's KC is the ONLY publication in the city metro to take the intelligent side of this argument and point out that workers are harmed with mandated wage increases. We don't pretend to have all the answers of how to help low-skilled workers join the workforce and become more financially productive. (Perhaps have a public school system that could teach math and reading past grade 5 would be a start.)

However, we clearly recognize and have warned numerous times, against a failed policy that only harms those it's intended to help.

The only winners of minimum wage increases are politicians, including our Mayor and Presidential hopeful Sanders, who gladly step on the unemployed bodies of voters they pretend to benefit.

    That will be special.

  6. You don't have to be the brightest bulb in the chandelier to understand that when wages are artificially forced higher, people will lose their jobs.

Progressives are all about appearance, not substance.

  10. Let these fools who support the minimum wage raise learn the hard way when they lose their jobs. It's unfortunate for small business owners but In time the law will be amended to help those businesses who survive this.

  11. If the only thing standing between your job and a computer doing your job is paying you incredibly low wages, then the computer should win. Free that worker up to do any of the other jobs that are out here. But paying people low wages does not contribute to society at all.

  12. There's a cheap surplus of labor... for now.

  13. Drive down Front Street, East of Chouteau and on the south side, you'll see several boarded up fast food joints, about 4 in all.

Drive to 40 hwy East of sterling, you'll see a Taco Bell closed up

I-70 & Noland Road in the north east corner where K-Mart is and you'll see a Former Chuck Cheeses closed & boarded up as well.

Quite sure theres others around town too.

Recently visited a Wendys and the drive thru service was so badd and slow, many people just pulled out of line and left, that was 10:00pm at night, with only 4 cars.

Drive thru isn't supposed to take 15 to 20 minutes to get your order !

They can protest and yell all they want, for their 15 dollar an hour wage, frankly many of them are NOT Entitled to that, many can't even speak proper English, read or write.

Can they give back correct change without the register telling them ??
back in the 1960's 1970's and 80's employees had to be able to count back correct change to the customers using their noggins, common sense and education, that all changed with the invention of new cash registers that tells employees how much correct change to give back, and photos of money too, simply amazing !!!

The orders are wrong, and after getting the orders, the food looks like utter shit, not even edible in some cases !

Went to one burger joint recently got my order and it truly looked like somebody sat on it and smashed it !!

    Pathetic !!

  14. The Religious hypocrites and fast talking civic activists have significant influence on the City Council...
These folks seem to think that their actions do not have consequences. I am the first one to agree that getting more money into the hands of the poor would be a very desirable thing to accomplish. A $15.00 minimum wage would have significant and detrimental outcomes which include the acceleration of jobs and businesses moving to Kansas.
US company's have moved MILLIONS of jobs to China because of lower wages. Warren Buffet is 100% in agreement with not touching the minimum wage due to the unintended outcomes.
Once the City Council loses its credibility a vote against the E-Tax becomes easy.
