Our rulers don’t seem to understand just how tired their American subjects are with this experiment. They don’t understand that the American people aren’t out to get nihhers, they are just exhausted with them. They are exhausted by the social pathologies, the violence, the endless complaints, and the blind racial solidarity, the bottomless pit of grievances, the excuses, and the reflexive animosity.

ReplyDeleteOne brilliant attendant (me) observed that any real progress against crime has to be counter-intuitive.
First, instead of arresting, charging and imprisoning more and more young men for longer and longer -- a policy that has not worked out well for us -- we need to create ways to address non- and low-violence crimes without creating permanent felony records that destroy the future of those who are convicted, making employment and housing difficult.
Second, we need to abandon the idea that guns -- especially handguns -- make us safer. They do not. they give us dead children -- and too many young men in prison (also our children, for the most part) Since the NRA fetishists in the Legislature will not pass any kind of rational regulation, we must take individual action: If you have a handgun in your house, get rid of it! Don't be the mother who cries because your child is lost to gun violence or to prison, get rid of the gun.
FILL UP TROOST LAKE WITH HANDGUNS, AND WE ALL WILL BE SAFER!
