Mayor Sly Promises To Demolish 800 Dangerous Kansas City Buildings After Similar 2012 Pledge Incomplete And Abandoned

It's throwback Thursday and Mayor Sly correctly assumes that media in Kansas City don't have a memory or don't care about his previous publicity stunt that didn't pan out. This pledge is a bit more detailed but probably won't last long after E-Tax renewal. Take a peek: KC Business Journal on Twitter

  1. KC taxpayers are about as easy to dupe as they come.
How many times can Lucy pull the football away?

  3. This Mayor is a total assclown. Dangerous building in KC mean vacant, boarded windows.

  4. This idiot right now is going to promise anything, hoping you squirrels that fall for it will vote yes on the e-tax.

  6. TV5 4:00pm lead story "DUMPS FOR A DOLLAR" or "ONE BUCK BLIGHT" . . . Is what Sly and Troy just announced one of those too good to be true deals, or big bait & switch? Yep, pass the E tax! City Hall's flipper friends' gonna snap up the better deals first. Is Sly's banker buds lending at low rates for good families to enjoy ownership?

So, a few of the worst crap gets taken down before April's Etax vote while the bulk are still gonna sit waiting for $1 house buyers get fully rehabbed, if ever, and under what deadline? Those few worthy of quick, less costly rehab may make a sooner, but only a small dent to start paying taxes, utilities, insurance and renovation supplies sales.

Can't believe this is anything other than kicking cans down the road again for eastsiders, right before the tax vote. Hope for the best...

  8. And the big bear said to the little bear, "Who's been sleeping in my porridge?" After the e-tax vote the next time anyone on the east side will hear from anyone will be the next election in 2019.

  11. The really sad part is that not all of the properties listed on the dangerous buildings list are actually dangerous buildings. Some of these buildings just have broken, boarded windows. I don't believe there are 800 totally unusable properties in Kansas City. That's a lot of houses to tear down and most of them probably shouldn't be torn down at all. Is the City Engineer going to go to each one before demolition and determine if the homes can be salvaged. I can't imagine what 800 demolitions will look like in a neighborhood. That doesn't make people safer. This is the wrong approach for all 800 structures. Unbelievable.

  15. 7:14: 800 is probably a conservative estimate. Take a drive through the east side. And they'll still be there when we vote for the next mayor in 2019. And 2023. And... .

  16. What a load of crap. Kansas City doesn't have the money to tear down the (not 800 but thousands of) abandoned houses that decorate its landscape.

Plus which, nobody wants to actually do the job.

Who wants "Shot while driving a bulldozer" on their tombstone?

  17. I guess they will just have to raise the E Tax. Everyone knows the coons are all for spending your hard earned money. And what a better way of getting it with no strings attached. Non residents are robbed and don't get to say a word about how the city money burning program is going. White Suckas!
