ReplyDeleteCouncil discussions about additional funding of the 18th and Vine District came at the very worst time. It reminded people of the wasteful decisions this City Council makes. If the E-Tax becomes a referendum on the effectiveness of the City Counsel, it will surely be defeated.

DeleteHow many tax dollars are going to be spent promoting a tax initiative YES vote? If this shit isn't an inappropriate use of tax payer monies nothing is. This is all the more reason to vote NO.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to be sympathetic to an earning tax on non-KCMO residents. Employers already pay taxes, which cover any incidental use by non-residents. Also, it's unfair tax people who cannot vote in KCMO elections.

ReplyDeleteHow about all the KC residents who work in the burbs. They use the burb's streets, public safety and infrastructure. But they don't pay any earnings tax to the burbs. But somehow when a JoCo resident works in KCMO they must pay.

Fear monger 11:16pm. City has to learn to budget and provide basic services. Outcomes if property tax increases will be the same as if the etax passed. More vacancy and abandoned housing because people can't afford owning. The city would be irresponsible to do that. They know what they need to do. Trim the fat...and the Mayor too.

On page 11 of this 470 page document, we find in the introduction, the following:
"The key changes include a one-year salary freeze for all City employees."
This budget document, presented by Mayor James and City Manager Troy Schulte, did not specifically indicate, but surely Mr. Schulte will set the example for others and not ask for, nor accept, a salary increase as long as all other city employees remain under a salary freeze. Right? I mean the City Manager has to lead by example, doesn't he? Because it would be wildly hypocritical for Mr. Schulte to accept a new or extended contract with increased compensation while asking that all other city employees to forgo such opportunities.
Why do KCMO political leaders LOVE the earnings tax?

And KCMO politicians are not responsible to them! Free money!
2) Individuals pay 81 percent of the total, businesses contribute 19 percent.
But, businesses pay based on "net profits earned in the city." Big businesses, in particular, have accounting departments and tax advisors to whittle down their paper net profits as low as possible. Employed individuals have the 1 percent withheld from their pay. The self-employed and non-resident contractors working within KCMO are expected to self-report earnings.
3) Many groups are exempted from the 1 percent earnings tax.
4) Do you know which KCMO political/business leaders haven't paid their fair share of the earnings tax in past years?
5) Since the tax is on "earnings" do you know all the tricks the well-to-do employ to shift their income into other categories?
6) Are you familiar with the cadre of political consultants, many of whom live in Kansas, which are paid with KCMO taxpayer dollars to pimp tax increase proposals on residents....yet they themselves don't pay the 1 percent earnings tax!!
TRUTH = the KCMO 1 percent earnings tax is a sham perpetrated upon the working-class to confiscate their money.
I will vote no on the e-tax. I do not pay an earning tax for working in Kansas when I was a resident of KCMO. How can you justify the opposite? The tax actually hurts the City more than it helps.

ReplyDeleteWhat fucking services? Speed traps? Crooked tow trucks? Hotel Tax? The city does not own shit in KC unless they can make a buck off of it. I think if you will check most all the roads were paid for, one way or another, with state and federal funds. So what services am I using that KC owns and are not already paid for? Do they own the employers? Do they own people's property they keep taxing? I guess i use the city's counter when I pay a fucking parking ticket so I should pay tax on that? This earnings tax is a fucking scam. Hell, the citizens don't hardly benefit from it...unless they are building an arena or building more shit to make money off of. KC is absolutely terrible at competing with it's own citizens and business men and having the advantage of free tax money from outside to exert power over citizens is just fucking crazy.
