KMBC: "Prosecutors have charged a 19-year-old Kansas City man with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting of his adoptive father at a Lee's Summit restaurant Friday night."
Accordingly, local biz dude Chris Moreno notes the violent trend in this shared social media message that's earning more than a bit of support from suburban denizens who fear KCMO crime spreading to their part of town.

Like it or not, the topic of so-called crime spillover is something that nearby resident often lament but is mostly denied by officials in Kansas City proper and many locals see this discussion as part of ongoing prejudice against increasing suburban diversity. Unfortunately, there has been very little conversation about this aspect of Kansas City's crime problem. Until now . . .

ReplyDeleteDon't forget the shooting in Shawnee. Lee's Summit knows that their future isn't looking so great. Over the past five years their population growth has dropped along with housing starts along with municipal revenue. It's not the same boom town that it was back in 2007.

ReplyDelete@7:28, disagree. Lee's Summit, Mo is fine. In fact more then fine. Yes the population growth is slower now then what it used to be. But that's a good thing. A fast population growth brings crime and changing demographics. Something that people in LS don't want. Look at Johnson County.
ReplyDeleteTwenty years ago how many black and Mexicans lived in the area? Few. Now if you go some area's it looks like the Westside or East of Troost.
The black population of LS is still under 9 percent. Hardly any Mexicans. Infact we have more East Indians here then we do Mexicans. Hardly any section 8 housing.
What LS and many burbs need to do is pull over people who you think shouldn't be there. Honestly if you see a group of young blacks in a POS car going around Lakewood, do you think they live there?
So racial profiling is ok? All people of color are not bad. This was a good friend of mine who was killed by a child he adopted. He was trying to give the boy a positive life. The boy was troubled to begin with, but his father saw past that and wanted to help him reach his full potential. This wasn't some gang shooting or over drugs. His son had mental issues and was off medication.

The concentration of poverty by means of all of the obvious social reasons reduces people to a level of low expectations. The expression "Poor people have poor ways" is meaningful regardless of race. Poor people take there problems with them. This means to the suburbs because they can not get what they need close to home.

I like that Chris Moreno speaks up on this.
