Resigned Jackson County Executive Mike 'Skippy' Sanders Earns Pass From Ruckus!!!

Here's one last laugh for this evening . . . A top politico in Kansas City slinks away from his job like a hobo in the middle of the night and every pundit in this corrupt and wicked little town sings his praises.

- Not a peep about Mike Sanders abandoning the job that voters elected him to do . . .

- Only Mike Shanin dares bring up the Feds lurking around the courthouse most of last year . . .

- And the conversation ends on a high note about sports . . . As if local government exists only to benefit fanboys

Again, we're a fan of Ruckus, it's the GOLD STANDARD of political chat in Kansas City but there's a pathological obsession with polite political correctness that is ruining local Democracy.

Here's the description of the show . . .

"Mike Shanin interviews playwright Michelle T. Johnson and Hale Center reporter Mike McGraw about the StoryWorks project relating to the 1988 explosion that killed six firefighters. Then Woody Cozad, Mary Anne Murray Simons, Steve Glorioso and Jason Grill discuss the resignation of Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders, revitalization efforts in the Jazz District and predictions for 2016."

Watch it . . .

You decide . . .

  1. I liked it.

It's called being a profession TKC. Something you don't know anything about. This is a grown up conversation about politics and these are WORKING people who have an interest in moving Kansas City forward.

Grow up, not everybody needs to be a bomb thrower in order to be heard.

  2. Maybe Grill sold him some socks?

  3. At least Shanin asked the questions, the rest of the media just covered that statement and that's.

  4. Why do they call him Skippy?

  5. Very well put, 839.

But your IQ is too far above this group.

I thought Tony was on Ruckus?

  6. I did not like it. Very unprofessional. As journalists this group should be curious about the suspicious way Skippy abandoned his job. More time with his family?
No, I do not like the way these journalists are cowards. I get my news from the St. Louis paper.

You know Tony is the news source in Kansas City.

  7. when you say they are "working" for Kansas City, you should note that all them are working as paid consultants. There is very little objectivity on this panel, they are mostly just shills.

    Ebola soon?

  9. RE: "Again, we're a fan of Ruckus, it's the GOLD STANDARD of political chat in Kansas City but there's a pathological obsession polite political correctness here that is ruining local Democracy."

TKC is being polite there in the first part of his comment, and then speaking hard-edged reality in the latter.

Mike Shanin is a nice guy, but my straight opinion of his attitude on Ruckus is this---he's more interested in playing nice host to guests and regulars, than actually being a representative voice for the public. Ruckus serves as an easy PR platform for local business/political guests, as they know in advance they won't be held accountable with difficult questions. Quite similar to Kraske's radio show. Both Shanin and Kraske have been captured by the current nature of mass media, working in tandem with guests to deliver their scripted message, and rarely, if ever, daring to interview from an adversarial position.

PHUCKUS 3:1, is what passes for local civics/politics in KC by the Liberal-minded public television station. 3:1, because in all but perhaps one or two episodes, the Ruckus panel consists of three politically Liberal guests versus a sole Conservative/Libertarian. This episode featured Liberal Democrats Grill, Simons, and Glorioso (actually a Socialist) and the brilliant Republican Cozad.

People like Grill and Simons are zombie cheerleaders for whatever the Democratic Party supports. They rarely have specifics, preferring to sling public relations jargon ("think outside the box") to the shallow and gullible. They wish to string along their consulting clients for as long as possible. Mr. Glorioso's long shelf-life in KCMO politics exemplifies the stale, sordid state of Democratic politics within this city.

Mr. Cozad (I'm giving him his own separate paragraph, so as not to be tainted by the above 3) is a living, breathing personification of INTEGRITY. When choosing sides before battle, one would be remiss (if intent on winning) to note which team Mr. Cozad has allied himself with, and square up alongside him.

  10. Ruckus is "has been" people and media. Yawn.

  11. What ever happened to "Check Please" about kc restaurants? That was a much better show.

  12. @2:17 it was a better show. Rather have that show back on.

Tony you have to quit pining to be on that sorry excuse for a show. There is absolutely no reason to watch Ruckus and it surprises me every week when you devote bandwidth to it.

  14. I think its fair to say that if there was a big story surrounding Sanders exit it would have been aired anonymously on TKC already. People can't resist being the in the know sharer of bad tidings or secrets. That is not to say I ever buy the "Spend more time with the family" story that is an overused reason most people find an effective shield against those who would call you a quitter or worse for leaving an elected post. I can't think of another job that will allow him more time away from the office than County Exec gave him so perhaps he is seeking a sabbatical.

  15. The best part of the show was the interview that is keeping the shameful railroading of innocent people by the Feds.

But, seriously, "Glorioso (actually a Socialist)"?????

Steve is barely liberal -- it is just that the political spectrum has shifted so far to the right that right-wingers like Cozad & Shanin seems moderate compared to the GO(Tea)Party.

Universal Health Care and Environmental Protection? Like that old "Socialist" Teddy Roosevelt? Get a dictionary.

Once again, you demonstrate your ignorance in this comment section by questioning a straightforward fact---"Glorioso (actually a Socialist)."

If you actually had an informed opinion, you would know that Mr. Glorioso himself espoused Socialism on a previous Ruckus episode. When comparing the Socialist governments of Northern Europe to the United States, Glorioso stated that he strongly wished to see the U.S. move toward their Socialist model.

    Cardarella "the ignorant" loses again!

  18. It was a good who but I wonder how many people really watch it. I think the comment about the Check Please show was apt.
