"This video is a reenactment of the final moments of Ryan Stokes' life.
"Two years ago, Ryan Stokes was murdered by the Kansas City Police Department after his friend was falsely accused of stealing an iPhone by a drunk man at the Kansas City Power & Light District. Ryan was unarmed and shot from behind, by a KCPD officer. He had no criminal record.
"After his death, police and media attempted to drag his name through the mud in an attempt to justify his murder. The Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners went as far as awarding a certificate of commendation to the officer who killed Ryan."
"In reality, Ryan was a loving father, son, friend, and church member, known as a peacemaker and a hard worker who was deeply committed to his family and his community."

Of course there are two sides to every story but I think we need to focus on documentation and inconsistencies.
ReplyDeletePolice have documented the shooting and they have been up front about their position on the altercation. But social media and mainstream keep repeating the unproven words of protesters and the guy's mom.
In reality, this is one of the less controversial police shootings. It is sad of course but a lot of statement from friends of Stokes don't match up. Some of them admit he had a gun and others deny it. I think if we had more real community input on the police board and not just the same politicians, the reaction might be different.

ReplyDeleteI think it is terrific that KCTV is actually investigating rather than doing what the local press usually does which is take what ever line of shit they are given by the city PR machines. With that said the failure is that there is a lot of shit being stirred by KCTV and Tony by trying to give credibility to folks/organizations who are making statements they claim are facts when they have no more first hand knowledge of the event than the man in the moon. If the officer is guilty I'd volunteer to give the lethal injection, but continually shaking the same bag of shit without facts is irresponsible at best.

- with someone accused of stealing a phone
- ran from officers when approached
- gun found (in agreement with statements) after shootings
On the other side, it's a mash-up of conflicting statements:
- maybe he was with someone who stole a phone and maybe he wasn't
- ran from officers (but hey, who doesn't when the police say "stop")
- maybe he had a gun and maybe he didn't
Similar to the Brown case in Ferguson, you'd think the protesters would/could find a better case to hand their hat on than this one.
Minneapolis Police Union Leader is also leader of the KKK in those parts. If there's a one percent chance the police union is running the KKK we have to assume all white cops who don't live in the areas they patrol are KKK

What is painful is that no matter how much proof some people have, they can't accept the facts. This guy had a gun and he if he obeyed police commands he would still be alive. That is the lesson here.
