The Great Kansas City Obamacare Debate!!!

This morning let's start our Kansas City morning news chat with an IMPRESSIVE array of experts on Healthcare gathered to discuss the local medical and tax issues in the shadow of City Hall which helped to pass a healthcare levy on top of Obamacare but then defended a reduction in services to po'folk less than a year later . . .

Some of these facts might actually come into play during this discussion . . .

Description:

"KCPT takes its cameras to UMKC’s Pierson Auditorium as we partner with the American Public Square to separate the fact from the fiction with in-depth reports and a panel that includes the woman who was charged with leading the nation’s healthcare system.

"Kathleen Sebelius, former Secretary of Health and Human Services and Governor of Kansas led the effort to pass and implement the Affordable Care Act before departing President Obama’s cabinet last year. Also on the program: Michael Cannon, Director of Health Policy Studies at the Cato Institute; Daniel Landon, Vice President of the Missouri Hospital Association; and Tarren Bragdon, President/CEO of the Foundation for Government Accountability."

  3. What a fucking disaster Obama Care is. Just another wealth transfer with blacks supposedly getting the bennies, but even they got fucked. The Federal Government couldn't run the VA, so of course, Liberal Ideologists think it can run the entire system.

    Pen and Phone.

Everyone's costs went up with extremely few exceptions and no, dumb fuck, you don't get to keep your plan or your doctor.

    What incompetent low life liars.

  4. The US health care system was working absolutely perfectly before that Obammy got his hands on it.

Yep, a system where a "routine" heart attack could bankrupt families and a hospital tylenol would add $100 to your final bill was the dream and envy of the rest of the world.

  5. ^^this great "system" that was working so well was an insurance "system", not a health care "system". So, what is the federal governments logical conclusion? Expand health insurance so everyone must, under threat of penalty, buy it. The world is going fucking crazy.

  6. 7:37 I am against ObamaCare because discriminates against single fathers. Where my company once paid 50% of my healthcare, because of the subsidies they are no longer compelled to do that. Now because of the way the Child Support laws are written in the state of Missouri (written well before ObamaCare) I cannot claim my child as a dependent. because of this I cannot get the subsidy. So I have realized an increase of nearly 8 thousand dollars in my yearly expenses. So I would gladly have paid $100 for a Tylenol.

ObamaCare was poorly written. I am not against the IDEA of ObamaCare. I am just against this ObamaCare.

  7. Thoughtful comment 756, is that the whole health care issue had to traverse a political maze that was not solution driven. Way too many participants that asserted that they were trying to offer improvements, when in fact, their intent was to F the thing up.

John Sharp was a master at this type of tactic (just one more amendment, PLEASE).

I am close enough to the health care delivery system to know a bit about what I am talking about. Not an expert, but can separate the politics from the business model.

The insurance model Pre Obama Care, provided insurance coverage to virtually everyone, they just did it by spreading the cost of the uninsured to those who paid , indirectly or directly, through increased pricing. Think of the price of shop lifting.

If any of the candidates say they will repeal Obama Care, they are pandering to the emotions of their political base. Obama Care needs major improvements, but until their is a collective will to address business solutions verse political rhetoric, it can't happen.

People want to get made at someone about the cost of health care, consider obesity. 40% of this F-ing Country is obese. I have a relative who is as right wing as they come and all he bitches about is Obama Care. Oh, by the way, he is 5-11, 260 pounds and is on meds for sleep apnea, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and over-the-top cholesterol.

ALL GD PREVENTABLE. So, you want to get mad at someone, get pissed at the fatties who are really responsible for driving most of the costs. Go sit your ass down in the waiting room of an endocrinologist, and you will see exactly why we have a major issue in this country.

60 years ago, these fatties would have died in their 40's and 50's from heart disease and diabetes. Instead, the drug companies are doing quite well at keeping these people alive for an additional 20 years, but only if they take a half-dozen daily meds to overcome their unwillingness to take in less calories than they expend.

Drugs have overcome the reality of Darwinism. You doubt? Take a look at any type of picture from the 50's and look at the profiles of the people in the pics and compare that with want you see buying ammo at the local Walmart. If you keep your mind open, you just might get past the red-blue BS that drives the politic in this Country.

I really hope we can keep Zobrist. And Tony knows shit about running a small market baseball franchise.

    1. Sadly, your politics have gotten in the way of an otherwise good comment. Are there not fatties buying "Hot Cheetos" and "Grape Pop" at any local convenience store? Or are only the fatties buying ammo at WalMart the problem? Additionally, who was more likely to have health insurance pre Obamacare? And who was more likely to pass their cost on to others?

  8. 9:08 has left what will be the best post on TKC today.

    Very well said.

His statement about looking at photos of American crowds from decades ago is absolutely true; we're a nation of slobs who treats our bodies like rental cars for decades and then expects healthcare to fix every problem we've brought onto ourselves once we hit 50.
