Respect The 1st Kansas City Bike Box

Cyclists were pretty much suckered into supporting the toy train and the word is that a crackdown is on the way because there have been a litany of trouble betwixt bikes and streetcars in other cities. But for the moment here's a bit of local love for the expensive bikes of Downtown denizens in a link that has been otherwise hidden away from critical comment. 1. Welcome to the 90s KC! Lookin forward to the angsty suburban howling that will ensue on this time warp blog over the mildest change to the failed status quo of last century.

  2. Bicyclist like everyone else in this City hate the streetcar.

  3. This is total publicly stunt. Bicyclist won't be riding on Main. There are plenty of safe alternate route available.

  4. Dave Johnson’s payback to BikeWalk KC for their ill-conceived support of Trolley Track Trail Upgrades -
“Not only will streetcar project preserve the popular Henry Wiggins Trolley Track Trail, it will also be an opportunity to improve the trail and sustain it for future generations. “Rail with Trail” is a concept that has been successfully implemented around the world. Streetcars and trails can easily coexist and complement each other.”

  5. The bicyclists just ignore traffic lights anyway, they don't need a bike box.

  8. "With minimal fanfare"?
Certainly can't be a part of the Sly PR machine!
How about maximum fanfare...and NO results?
Is it really going to be another three years before any adults enter the building at 12th and Oak?

  9. Ah Image by David Johnson. Who'd a thunk it.

Enemy of hard working people paying up the teeth for his free ride.

  10. Why does bike box sound so dirty? They need a better name.

  11. Sorry to be a cynical asshole but the vision of KC being a bike/pedestrian haven is a complete joke. I wish it was but the fact is if you bike or walk on the streets or sidewalks of KC you will become a fatal statistic. There has been contention for awhile in this city between drivers and bike riders; drivers and biciclysists hate each other. I get it as this is primarily a car town due to it's sprawl. But people in this city don't even understand pedestrian crosswalks. I walk frequently and I now choose to cross streets in the middle of the block. Yes it is dangerous but it is much safer than crossing at the pedestrian crosswalk. I can cross the street in the middle of the block when there is no traffic but crossing at the crosswalk with the light is more dangerous. Cars are congested at that point and drivers don't seem to understand that pedestrians have the right of way and the white line before the crosswalk is where they are supposed to stop.
