Blogger Bill Tammeus once again makes a bold pronouncement without any room for comment. He notes local "decency" and uses a cheesy example from this week without much acknowledgment that this town kills kids and steals money from taxpayers on par with any other bold and brash big city.

ReplyDeleteWhen I moved to this area all I heard is how nice people were compared to other regions. I've seen no evidence of this. I've been ripped off at my business, home and car multiple times. I've witnessed cops lying under oath multiple times. Watched rigged city council meetings that stomp citizens into the ground while they fight to protect their properties and hard earned funds more than I want to remember. Lying thieves is more like it. Have a nice day.

ReplyDeleteIn this article, Bill Tammeus once again manages to place himself conspicuously in the middle of the action, where he doesn't belong. In what I thought was going to be an article on the Royals celebration, Mr. Tammeus, ever the shameless attention seeker, recounts his mythic baseball prowess which won the game for his team. Really? I'd like a fact-check on that assertion.
ReplyDeleteHe also manages to plug his own misnamed "Woodstock" book, link himself to the Hyatt skywalk collapse, and then equates the Westboro Baptist Church to Islamic terrorists!! WTF?
Perhaps the greatest error in Mr. Tammeus' writing relates to his frame of reference. He writes from the perspective of a white middle-class senior citizen living in south KC. When he writes---"All I know is that on the whole Kansas City is full of friendly, decent, caring people who know how to celebrate and how to respond to crises."---he unknowingly provides the answer to his other unanswered questions. "All I know" or in other words, Mr. Tammeus is ignorant of the segment of society which is capable of great violence as evidenced by the KCMO homicide rate.

The great majority of the violent crime in KC is committed by a fairly small, and readily-identifiable, demographic. We're not supposed to say it, but everyone knows it is true. We probably ought to deal with it, someday. But we won't.
