TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! ACTIVISTS AGAINST KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN CONVENTION HOTEL ADVISE: CONTACT MAYOR AND COUNCIL TO DEMAND PUBLIC VOTE!!!
TKC NOTE: Here's the latest word from the voter group pushing a public vote on the fate of the Downtown Convention Hotel. In this message they recap the situation so far . . .
Downtown Hotel Petition
Citizens for Responsible Government and friends: As you probably are aware, the city council meeting last week was moved into a closed door session because the mayor did not want to discus our hotel petition in public. How transparent is that? It is a public issue but he wanted to keep it private we believe to try and drive his point of view down the throats of the new members on the council. He misjudged most of the new council members. Heather Hall was the first to ask why the closed session only to be cut off. Then several new members, lead by Teresa Loar objected and Ms Loar eventually walked out of the meeting after the mayor shouted at her like a school kid. She was right to do so.
Placing the hotel issue on a ballot as the voters have requested is no doubt a contentious issue and we believe the mayor will try to drag it out for the 60 day period allowed by law, hoping it will go away. We believe it is far too important to drag out. We are asking the council members whom have shown support for getting it on the ballot to introduce their own ordinance moving the hotel petition to the ballot immediately. This will do two things: if successful, the issue will be resolved by the voters on the next ballot… or … The voters will know which city council members do not really represent them.
Again, we ask your support in calling and emailing your in district and all at large councilpersons (info attached) asking them to introduce or support an ordinance to move the hotel petition to the ballot immediately and not delay 60 days. As always, thank you for your support..

Now . . .
HERE'S THE INTERNETS GUIDE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL!!!
Remember that all of these people were elected by way of record low voter turnout so the need to be accessible to the public . . . Most them are nice people and there is a growing majority on the council who are losing faith in the Mayor's ability to lead or win public support for a project that's sketchy and hidden by way of backroom deals.
Developing . . .
Remember that courteous and thoughtful message will probably garner the most influence. It's not like a blog, ya know.
ReplyDeleteFurious French Workers Attack Air France Executives, Rip Their Clothes Off
ReplyDeleteThere ya go CK! Beats remaining dysfunctional
Um...if Dan Coffey wants to be in charge so bad, why didn't he just run for Mayor? Perhaps he didn't want anyone looking him up on CASE.NET?
ReplyDeleteThe French have gone soft. Now as much ferociousness as the sheep biting a piece of the Serta mattress.
ReplyDeleteBut hell, still more than here in US. We go back to our TV's to watch football
5:42 PM Right, because being nice to assholes always helped matters. What planet did you land from? You've been sniffing space-junk.
ReplyDelete6:09 Just because the Old-Guard Council and Mayor are pigs, doesn't mean you have to get in the mud with them. Civility should always be sought as a first course, only then should other courses be courted.
ReplyDeleteSly promised it to Hyatt. It's out of his hands now and out of KC's pocket book.
ReplyDeleteWe got your votes. Now deal with it. Kiss our rings and call us queens and kings. D-list celebrity is celebrity nonetheless. We're bottom feeders but we made it.
ReplyDeleteCoffey lied and got Brooksiders riled up against the streetcar. He doesn't have facts, but wants to be somebody, so he is against progress. He still wishes his pal Funkhouser was mayor. Don't listen to him.
ReplyDelete^^^^^^^
ReplyDeleteTotal B.S.., Sly sure has you working late. In fact, Coffey helped throw the Mayor out of Brookside like a scared bum who didn't want to have to answer questions.
Shame on you and Sly's Administration for attacking people rather than letting them vote.
Your boss really is a scum bag 8:18. Hope he's paying you well.
That record breaking 3.2 billion in KCMO tourist revenue is a good reason taxpayers should subsidize the hotel.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Chris Hernandez. 9:31pm
ReplyDeleteBlame council members that voted for the hotel. Don't blame Sly.
ReplyDeleteCoffey couldn't get elected to sweep the sidewalks in Brookside and he knows it. The CRG/Show-Me/Anti-streetcar hysterics are a minority in Brookside. Look at how many votes Terrence Nash got, versus pro-streetcar McManus. Look at pro-streetcar Jolie Justus landslide in the northern part (where Coffey lives).
ReplyDeleteThe are classic squeeky-wheelers. The Brookside majority is getting fed up with the Sherry DeJanes, Dan Coffey, Pat Touhey triumvirate of anti-everything loudmouths acting like they speak for us, and they know it.
A City with "NO" Economic Development Incenting Policy, with an elected Council. The Mayor said he wanted the City "open for business". So we rescinded the Policy.
ReplyDeleteTKC I just want to applaud you for bringing this issue to light and making this aware to the public in Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteSly is by passing the voter and this is an extremely important to let the people voice strong disapproval to this type of shenanigan's going on. This isn't Chicago, this city is messed up enough without Sly dog being sneaky.
It won't make any difference. This deal has been done for about five years now. This whole petition process is naive. You don't seem to have any history of democracy: you have 'at large' seats. Only the people who had residency along the streetcar route were allowed to vote on it, as if it didn't, in fact, effect the whole city.
ReplyDeleteIn the last mayoral election, no body voted?! You can't be helped.
6:00, 8:18 & 10:02: Toot toot. Unusually hostile hoots. Getting paid 4 hours overtime for your efforts? Clunk.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately this is a done deal & the average citizen can't do anything about it.
ReplyDeleteOk Byron, you're repeating yourself, 125am/626am. Go get some sleep.
ReplyDeleteEveryone who disagrees with Sam Abadir is a paid mayoral staffer, which explains why the anti-progress candidates did so well in Brookside last election. 70% of Brookside is one the mayors payroll, or are paid consultants.
ReplyDeleteBut none of the anti-everything league has ulterior motives...nope, not one! Nothing to see here folks, move on!
Pay no attention to the fact that the streetcar expansion got more votes in midtown than all the anti streetcar petitions and Facebook posts! Pay no attention to the fact that anti-everything leaguer Terrence Nash did not win a single precinct (not even Sherrys) and that Jolie won every precinct in the brookside portion of her district by 50% margins.
Pay no attention to DeJanes back yard fence encroaching on public land which was specifically set aside from its inception for rail traffic. Pay no attention to the flood of sinquefeild anti-KC money into show me and CRG causes. Pay no attention to the 1st district tea party candidate yard signs in Coffeys lawn by loose park.
Pay no attention to the results of EVERY SINGLE LIGHT RAIL VOTE EVER in the Brooksidw and Waldo corridor. Just trust Dan and Pat to tell you about the pulse of Brookside! Because everyone here agrees with these two carpetbagging out of state Republican shills! Brookside is a true bastion of conservatism! We swear! And we are super super super mad at Sly which is why he won 90% of the vote here and faced no opposition, even when Cofran, a Brooksider, and experienced and well liked former councilman, thought about running against home but couldn't get any backing! PLEASE BELEIVE ME!!!!!!
10/5/15, 6:00 PM After half of a tiny electorate put Katy "I'll bribe you to do that" Shields back in public office -- do you really think an appeal based on Case Net will mean anything?
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of salad being tossed around here today
ReplyDelete7:21: So does this qualify you for 5 1/2 hour' overtime?
