Local news today has been dominated by the aftermath of a horrific double fatality tragedy confronted by the Kansas City Fire Department.
Accordingly, our last post for today features links to the work of two of the greatest photographers in Kansas City paying tribute to the horrible loss suffered.

ReplyDeleteCool visuals
ReplyDeleteTony, can we get a post about the Royals putting on a masterful clinic on using tragedy to your gain? KC Fire shirts at BP, special hats tomorrow.
ReplyDelete^^^^^^^
ReplyDeleteI think the answer to that was "stay tuned"
If the fire address is correct - 2618 Independence Blvd - this property is owned by Bo Kim LLC with a business address of Leawood, KS. Bo Kim LLC also owns the building on the corner that has so far survived the fire. This owner was cited by the city and alien was placed on the property for a dangerous building violation in 2003, that was eventually released by the city. It looks like this building fell back into dangerous building conditions due to this slum landlord!!!

ReplyDelete1158, you seem like you're trying to incite or witch hunt. You think that's going to bring anyone back?
Really wish the memorial fund for families would accept credit cards and have an online thing. Mailing checks isn't an option for me... I don't have any.
ReplyDeleteunion leaders demand city change Veterans Day holiday to "Democrat Union Firefighter Day"
ReplyDelete"how much them vets ever give to the Democrats?' declared a union leader -- "we give 'em BIG bucks!!
^ Edgy fail. You're just looking learning disabled at this point.
ReplyDelete11:58, there's a story in this morning's Star about the building's owner. The name and facts of the story differ from yours. Contact the Star and challenge the story (or post a comment, if they'll let you) if you do not agree with what they wrote.
ReplyDeleteI think the Royals are showing a lot of class by addressing the tragedy. They could ignore it and revel in their success and money, but some actually care about the community. They don't need the PR. I'm guessing they have made hefty financial donations too.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Internet. Ready for another day of staring at your phone, laptop, only occasionally looking up or away to to scowl at a stranger?
ReplyDeleteyep-hundreds of Kansas City vets perished serving their country in Nam -- and get a small memorial by a gas station on 42nd and Broadway--
ReplyDelete6 Democrat Firefighter union scammer go down -- and get a massive fountain and statue on a promontory overlooking the city..
but-then-- vets didn't bribe Democrat councilmen with huge donations --
KC is in Demosleazeball land -- learn to scam, vets!
11:58 Looks as though 12:33 is too touchy and a JoCo resident, perhaps. The owner of that burned property - "Bo Kim, LLC of Leawood" - was announced on TV news Tuesday midday and evening. And, it's certainly not a witch hunt to simply divulge owner and property details. Several violations were listed dated 2014, stating at least one for work done without proper inspections. It's early in the investigation, so more news along with probable legal proceedings will bring plenty more details on "Kim".

ReplyDeleteWhere's Tony this morning? Out of red bull?
ReplyDeleteProbably chasing after that waitress again.
ReplyDelete"Hey baby remember me I'm a famous blogger"
The memorial has a really nice design. I haven't had a chance to see it personally yet, but will soon. Very cool look at night.

ReplyDeleteThe firefighters memorial was originally paid for with PRIVATE contributions. I believe the City donated the ground, and the recent upgrade (about $300k) was paid for out of the "1% for art" funds that were used there in lieu of at recently constructed stations. Still, by and large the fountain memorial has been a private initiative. I'm sure that if a private group was willing to pay for a better Vietnam Veterans memorial, the City would find ground to place it on.
It's amazing how quickly the public's attention is shifted. Last week, the council's efforts to push back against Sly's hotel deal were front and center, to the point that even the Star was forced to report on it. This week, buried among all the news about the firefighter deaths, is the report that the council is now starting to play Sly's game and saying that there doesn't appear to be any legal way for the City to extract itself from the costly deal. I doubt that we'll hear much more about the effort from anyone other than this blog, it couldn't have worked out better for Sly and gang. Somebody should check his garage for a can of gas and matches.
ReplyDeleteI think things need to return to nigger around here. Oops I mean normal. There needs to be more BREAKING and exclusive nigger. Oops I mean news. It would be nigger. Oops I mean nice. You nigger? Oops I mean know.
ReplyDelete11:58...
ReplyDeletePer reports this morning, "However, Hernandez states that work was being done on a storage building out back, not on the apartment complex. No other open cases could be found within the past 10 years." Not exactly the smoking (excuse the pun) gun that you would lead us to believe. I'd say it's awfully hard to deem someone a "slumlord" or someplace a "slum" that, by and large, has been deemed safe for habitation for over a decade. Yeah, it probably wasn't the nicest place in town to live, but so far, the facts don't support your accusations.
Sometimes bad things just happen, and as much as we try to appoint blame, there's no one to blame... We'll see how this one turns out.
10:30 Folks are jousting over preliminary tidbits from teevee talk. Investigations are ongoing, therefore an official determination is not public knowledge yet. I recall an elder man (last name "Tusa") stated to the newsie on scene yesterday, his friend lived in that burned apt. building. He said there was no running water at times and conditions were not good there when he went to visit that friend. Only a small sampling so far, but more statements from residents, witnesses and documents research in reports should fill in the blanks.
ReplyDeleteDead? So what? What about the hundreds of black children that are killed by police every year?????
