MUST SEE!!! FRIENDS OF THE PLAZA ORGANIZE ONLINE KANSAS CITY PETITION TO SAVE NELLE PETERS APTS!!!

Amid rampant Kansas City real estate speculation and overbuilding . . . Check the activities of an influential Country Club Plaza crew along with our local historical preservationists.

Consider . . . This argument is getting even more urgent with colder weather approaching that could pretty much ruin the vacant buildings.

Checkit:

Nelle Peters: Save! Don't Raze!

Deets:

The buildings were designed by Nelle Peters in 1927, a noted Kansas City architect. She specialized in apartment buildings and hotels and was one of the few female architects to have an independent practice. She designed hundreds of buildings in the Kansas City area. These apartments are particularly distinctive in the Plaza landscape, contribute to its human scale, and are an important component of the residential and architectural fabric of the area.

We cannot save these iconic buildings without your help. Please help Historic Kansas City and Friends of the Plaza in our efforts by signing our petition today.

You can also support this effort by joining Historic Kansas City as a member, liking Friends of the Plaza or Historic Kansas City on Facebook, following us on Twitter, and by sharing this petition with your friends.

  1. These aren't Plaza citizens. Its an outside organization that just likes to interfere. These houses are a haven for criminals and crime. Why doesn't "Save the Plaza" do something about the problems with these houses, instead of crying about their demolition.

THEY ARE AN EYESORE, THEY ARE FULL OF HOBOS AND CRIMINALS!

  2. They are dilapidated. Friends of the Plaza aren't really friends at all.

  3. Like all the other situations where folks who are so concerned about derelict buildings come up with all sorts of ideas aabout how other people should spend their money.
Just raise a few million dollars and buy these buildings.
Then spend some more and bring them up to code and make enough improvements that people might actually rent them.
    Mission accomplished!
    You're welcome.

  4. I've lived within a mile of the Plaza for almost 30 years. Not one of the people in this group lives anywhere near our home. If they are so serious about how a private company spends it's resources they should pool their money and purchase the property. The property in question should have been demolished years ago, and only attracts vagrants.

  5. This current cycle of the Kali Yuga has no need or appreciation for aesthetics; no, we are all scowling meat-creatures walking through a void of faceless steel and glass towers.

  6. Friends of the Plaza ? No. Thieves in the woodpile along with some black grifters.

Nope, everything "Friends" touches ends up a cluster fuck. That collection of shit heels need to disband and move to Raymore.

  7. The Plaza would be way better if mega-firm lawyers would bulldoze all the cruddy little Spanish-looking buildings and replace them with tall, shiny office towers.

  8. The buildings are ugly but I support preservation. I will sign the petition. Please provide a website.
