TKC MUST READ!!! JACKSON COUNTY PROSECUTOR 'MEAN' JEAN PETERS BAKER TOUTS KC NOVA PROGRESS!!!

The Kansas City No Violence Alliance continues to tout progress regarding their community based approach to reducing crime and their results should be celebrated.

In a recent presser the city college studies the effort and gives them credit for their valiant work.

However. there's a curious line at the end of the presser that deserves attention because it's incorrect.

Here it is:

"For perspective, Kansas City has not seen homicide spikes this year, (Prosecutor Jean Peters) Baker added, like those in other citites, including St. Louis, Milwaukee and Baltimore."

Here are the facts:

According to that latest numbers from the KCPD Blue Sheet, Kansas City now counts 54 murders this year versus 45 at this time last year . . .

INCREASED ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT GUNFIRE AND A NEARLY 20% INCREASE IN MURDERS THIS YEAR OVER LAST REPRESENTS A SIGNIFICANT HOMICIDE SPIKE THAT NO OTHER MEDIA OUTLET IN KANSAS CITY IS REPORTING!!!

If we're gonna talk about progress, let's talk about maintaining that progress rather that just last year's news.

And of course, just about every in this town has forgotten the changes to the homicide count which eliminate "justified" police shootings which also helps reduce the number. To be fair, KCPD uses new UCR (Uniform Crime Reporting) stats to conform with FBI numbers while other cities have tweaked their stats so much that there is virtually no viable murder count.

Still, the prosecutor deserves credit for being open and forthright about her position on the local homicides whilst most politicos simply don't want to address the issue now that election season is over.

Check the presser and you decide . . .

KC NoVA linked to 2014 homicide reduction

The Kansas City No Violence Alliance project last year became more robust in its implementation, contributing to a “dramatic and significant” reduction in homicides in 2014, according to a new University of Missouri-Kansas City research evaluation of the violence-reduction collaboration here.

“Overall, the data indicated a dramatic and significant reduction in homicides that corresponded to robust implementation of focused deterrence in Kansas City,” the report concluded.

In 2014, the total number of homicides was 80, the lowest annual Kansas City total in four decades.

KC NoVA is a collaboration of the Kansas City, MO, Police Department, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, Mayor Sly James, Missouri Probation & Parole, the University of Missour-Kansas City, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the FBI and ATF. The collaboration first developed in 2013 after the appointment of a project manager, Major Joe McHale.

The Aug. 2015 evaluation, authored by faculty at the UMKC’s Department of Criminal Justice and Criminolgy, noted that KC NoVA’s implementation improved in 2014 in a variety of ways, including a revised implementation plan, improved lines of communication among stakeholders, the development of feedback loops to detect problems and an improvement in street-level intelligence.

“With admirable fortitude, (KC NoVA leaders) responded with a series of actions that would allow KC NoVA to mature into a project that would become the norm in Kansas City rather than just another ‘special project’,” the report found.

The researchers noted that the Kansas City Police Department made critical changes to its structure, transferring officers to the Violent Crimes Division to deal more effectively with violent groups. Other KC NoVA partners, including the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, designated specific staff to KC NoVA, enhancing enforcement and communications among NoVA enforcement elements. Missouri Probation & Parole committed personnel to the effort, co-locating one of their officers at the KC NoVA office inside the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

The evaluation did note some cautions. For one, the researchers found that the violence reduction was more dramatic earlier in 2014 than later. “This could be an indication of a decay effect, where the reductions slow or become less over time,” the researchers wrote.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, a member of the KC NoVA Governing Board, said homicides in the first half of 2015 were very similar to the number in the first half of 2014.

"KC NoVA is an opportunity to study outcomes, how those outcomes were achieved and then refine our efforts for greater impact,” Baker said. “We are now evaluating the first half of 2014 against the outcomes of 2015 to determine ways to combat a decay effect. It is a continual process of self-scrutiny."

For perspective, Kansas City has not seen homicide spikes this year, Baker added, like those in other citites, including St. Louis, Milwaukee and Baltimore.

  1. We obly saw one murder in Indian Mound last year. We had six in the past four weeks including a teenager and a possible hate crime against a transgendered individual.

I would still argue that KC NoVA has worked, but with racial and gender identity politics ramping up, economics taking a nose dive, and local leadership focused on gentrification policies, it's probably going to get worse before it gets better.

We need more opportunities to discuss and understand our differences openly and honestly.

  8. All that the CK NoVAgina program has done is make the little thugs more active. Without the usual excercise of climbing on and off the mounds of baby-makin flesh that pass for black women or fat white bitches they have more time to pursue their other favorite sport, shooting at each other.
