TKC MUST READ FACT CHECK: WALMART FAIR WAGE PUBLICITY STUNT RESULTS IN TRAGIC WORKER CUTBACKS!!!

TKC NOTE: Tonight we have an important bit of news follow-up that impacts Kansas City workers struggling to raise the minimum wage locally.

To wit . . .

HARD FOUGHT WORKER PAY INCREASES AMID THE NATIONAL FAIR WAGE FIGHT HAVE BLOWN UP IN THE FACE OF WALMART WORKERS!!!

As usual, the people on the lowest end of the pay scale are paying dearly for mistakenly believing voodoo economic rhetoric that understands neither economic theory nor the basic laws of supply and demand.

Here's the word and a BRILLIANT think piece for tonight. Check it:

You heard it here first . . .

Tony's KC, while supporting every hard worker in our city, was the first in the metro to point out a scientific fact as immutable as gravity. Specifically, raise the minimum wage and you increase unemployment. Tony reported back in March that a rise in the minimum wage could ultimately cause more unemployment. His tipster even provided links and facts.

Wal-Mart was recently hailed champion of the underclass when they announced they'd increase their hourly rate.

Stealing a line from Dr. Phil, I'd like to ask the boys of Bentonville, Arkansas "How's that working out for you?".

It was recently announced that Wal-Mart will cut hours of workers to offset the increase in pay.

Bloomberg Business: Wal-Mart Cuts Some Workers’ Hours After Pay Raise Boosts Costs

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., in the midst of spending $1 billion to raise employees’ wages and give them extra training, has been cutting the number of hours some of them work in a bid to keep costs in check.

Regional executives told store managers at the retailer’s annual holiday planning meeting this month to rein in expenses by cutting worker hours they’ve added beyond those allocated to them based on sales projections.

The request has resulted in some stores trimming hours from their schedules, asking employees to leave shifts early or telling them to take longer lunches, according to more than three dozen employees from around the U.S. The reductions started in the past several weeks, even as many stores enter the busy back-to-school shopping period.

  1. Oh, but it'll be different here in Kansas City, right? Because our mayor and the council know about business? They will look out for workers and not just their own careers. Mayor James will make sure that business treats workers fairly after his legislation ties their hands?

    That's the plan isn't it?

  2. Surprise! What the fuck do you think will happen

  3. wow thats a deeply insightful commentary considering states with a minimum wage higher than the Federal minimum have experienced faster rates of job growth than other states.

    Argument lost.

Sounds like a Stupordave argument: poorly researched, a cupful of racism, and three gallons of stupidity. Mix well and serve to Tony from asshole and watch him scoop it out with his tongue.

  4. it'll keep the NIGGERS in their place and shouldn't good sound policy be mostly based around ridding the country of NIGGERS?

    Yea I say!

  5. @7:42 - using fake data macroeconomic data doesn't really help the people who lost their jobs. Good luck gathering all those unemployed people to go vote.

Pray they don't start asking real questions.

  6. The contributor surely understands that if someone works 40 hours a week for $8/hr they make $320 a week. If their pay is increased to $10/hr, and they continue to work 40 hours a week they make $400 a week. An increase of $80. However, if their pay is increased to $10/hr, and their hours are reduced by 20% to 32 hours a week they will make $320 a week. A decrease of 8 hours.

What someone does with that 8 hours is open for debate, but it doesn't change the economics that they are still making more capital per hour.

  7. And how does Tony's asshole taste, Reason KC? WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT AS SWEET OR SAVORY?

    ReplyDelete
  8. So your saying less hours is better than more hours? That less hours and more pay is still better than more hours and less pay???? Say it isn't so. Are you telling me I could get a part time job with that extra 8 hours and create more value for myself and the economy? Sounds like a bad idea.

  10. Tony's analysis does not reflect deep thought.

  11. Just wait and see the productivity that will be demanded if KC pulls that $15.00 per hour horse shit. Fast food workers will be working multiple split shifts per day just so the businesses can survive.

Tony Botello is smarter than WalMart.

  16. SHOCKED!!! I'm shocked, I tell you, that the country's largest employer would take steps to rein in expenses, especially as their sales numbers have been missing the mark.

Economy in the doldrums (despite the lies from Obama Administration and Federal Reserve) translates into consumers cutting back and spending less. And it's only the beginning of a multi-year slide for the economy. The only reason the SH*T didn't hit the fan earlier, was because of the massive, never before seen intervention by the FED. And now, they're afraid to raise interest rates 0.25 of 1 percent!!

Judgement Day is looming folks, and unfortunately the 99% will suffer the brunt of the tidal wave.

Locally, please note that the political imbeciles like Mayor James continue to waste time/effort/money pandering to fast-food workers to insist on $15.00/hr. minimum wage! The height of stupidity!

Workers, if you have your sh*t together with the basics (show up for work on time, work hard, respect customers and boss, etc.) then leave fast-food and WalMart to join companies that care and offer better pay, advancement opportunities, stock plans, like Costco, QuikTrip, Chipotle (SEP 9 hiring). Or check out a construction trade.

  17. All of it is a marketing ploy for progressives or more specifically union hacks. Real unions were a great idea. Now they are nothing more thsn corporations with bloat at the top. Check out the resumes of the "organizers" of these campaigns. They're people with useless degrees who like the Wal-Mart and fast-food workers they tout as bastions of society are just castoffs who are unemployable anywhere else because they have an inflated sense of self and/or are lazy. Most of them only want part-time jobs and couldn't hold a full-time job.

I have two closely related people to me that fit that description to a T.

Lazy and don't want to work but can go on for hours how this country should be ran and how the evil rich should pay for everyone's way.

it disgusts me, it really does bro.

  19. Duh, you pay workers more and you can afford less workers. That like business 101. If no one saw that coming than they are blind to begin with.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Even with the cut backs, the business continues and the world revoles one more time around its' axis. Grow weed- it's more profitable.

    ReplyDelete
  21. This is arithmetic. These cuts were predictable for those who are basic mathematicians. More to come.

Yes, everyone knows I'm the biggest hater on this blog. I'm even a bigger hater than the people who call me names, & call black people animals.

The people targeted for these cutbacks were the people protesting.

    What a coincidence.

  23. 10:07: Make that three people counting Byron, who's up and at the computer early this morning undoubtedly mourning the success of his brother and congratulating himself on not working and making surplus value for "da man."

  24. Yes Byron you are and about time you admitted so.

  25. Meh, Walmart sucks. Don't go there, go to Target.

  26. FIRST WORD

It would appear that Byron hangs upside down, from the rafters of a log pole barn in some shit holler in West Virginia by day.

It's not possible to be that stupid otherwise. All that blood drains down into that thimble holding those 3 BB's he uses for brain cells.

What a bottom feeding, drain on society. Byron is living proof as to why we should abolish welfare. Immediately.
