This isn't just a story about some stolen plants probably worth less than 20 bucks . . . It's a retrospective on mortality, coping with loss and the zeitgeist of Kansas City.

Thankfully, a few flowers aren't as important as justice for the victims and their families and a recent decision of the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office to press death penalty charges.
Still, Sunday is a time for reflection and this story reminds us that local homicides don't just impact victims and their families but also have a pronounced effect on communities as well.
