Kansas City Fireworks Cash Up In Smoke

Quick fun note about the 4th that we'd like to share right now . . .

MORE THAN A FEW TKC READERS CAN'T HELP BUT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE COST OF JULY 4TH FIREWORKS CELEBRATION NOW THAT ALL THE FUN IS OVER!!!

Essentially, all of that cash that people spent is now up in smoke.

Here's a perspective from one of our readers that's worth a look:

"Hey TKC, there might not be anything you can do with this but I think you should point out how much money people waste on this fireworks junk. I'm sure the same is true of local governments but what I'm talking about hits closer to home.

"FRIEND of mine has had his share of hard luck and I've helped him out with money over the years. I actually admired him for getting involved in this 'Fight for 15' movement . . . I figure anything is more constructive than hanging around with friends and using. So, he tells me that he spent over $200 on fireworks this year.

"WTF!

"Really?! He lives in KCMO and fireworks aren't even legal within city limits but he and his new wife were shooting these expensive little toys all night. Basically burning MY money.

"Please warn people and maybe they will hold their folks accountable since I can still hear fireworks going off in my neighborhood. If authorities can't stop fireworks then maybe we can encourage people to act responsibly."

You decide . . .

Now that it's all over . . . You decide, if Kansas City fireworks are a boom or bust.

  2. EXCLUSIVE!!!!

Jordan Carver was cited by multiple metro area fire departments last night for sparking premature eruptions, crotch rockets, and aerial projectiles.

Fines to be waived in lieu of autographed photos.

  4. Wait a minute. Fireworks in the KCMO city limits are still illegal? Are you sure?
Joe Zwillenberg (Westport Flea Market) shoots off enormous displays for several days leading up to the 4th, then it's an all out fireworks bonanza on the actual 4th. He's at 59th and Ward Parkway. I heard he even posted a picture with two police officers the night of the 4th this year. You sure it's illegal? How can he get away with doing that out in the open? I think they have relaxed the rules a bit in KCMO, or else someone's getting paid off!

  5. The level of particulate matter, or small pollutants like dust, dirt and soot present in the air, increased by 42% on average across the U.S. on the Fourth of July, according to the study. Air conditions are at their worst between 9 and to 10 p.m. on the day of the holiday.
