15 percent of chases related to felony crime and 85 percent related to mostly non serious petty shit. So why are we holding dangersous chases 85 percent of the time. It sure as hell is not in the best interest of the public. There is ample technology to eliminate all but a very few of these chases and still result in a legitimate offender being apprehended, but when you are chasing people just because you think they are a little flaky or they rolled through a stop sign you end up risking becoming another Tim Runnels. If this is considered smart policing we've been flushing our tax dollars training this kind of doctrine. Seems like we inbest a lot of money putting officers on the street just to see these kinds of statistics, risk injury to officers and public for the sake of a misdemeanour collar, traffic offense or a street shakedown. I'm all for the cops winning, but this shit is just fucking dumb.
