ReplyDeletePlaces become desirable for development when they are sterilized for White People after White People have shit and git, turned them into waste dumps, abandoned the space, and have forced disadvantaged people to occupy the space they can afford. Then immigrants, artists and small scale tradesmen see opportunity on the low end, adding value to derelict property. Then the developers with the big bucks move in and sterilize an area by driving out the the little guys, often with being given the power of eminent domain. Then the sterile suburban development model is imposed, wiping out any distinct historic or individual architectural character or urban culture.

What Kansas City's Eastside does not need is more parks. If this is a rendering of what is to be expected, the creators of this depiction have the wrong idea.

It fits right in with his pick up sticks sculpture that only impresses the ignorant with size but not with imagination. But then he does know how to sell, not invent anything new. That does match Kansas City development trends!
