MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY FAIR WAGE FIGHT FOR $15 CONFRONTS INEVITABLE MISSOURI LAW SMACK DOWN!!!

A Missouri politico touts laws already on the books as a roadblock which prohibits Kansas City activists, Councilman Jermaine Reed and other proponents of a higher minimum wage from changing the city charter to accomplish their goal.

Sadly, Kansas City mainstream media has been ignoring Missouri laws in favor of reporting fair wage rhetoric with no reality check or documentation with cruel facts.

Now . . .

CHECK THIS MISSOURI POLITICO SMACKING DOWN KANSAS CITY MAYOR, COUNCIL AND MEDIA BY CITING MISSOURI LAW WHICH PREVENTS THE PROPOSED CITY HALL MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE!!!

Here's the headline . . .

MO Times: Schaefer takes lead in fight against urban leaders in minimum wage fight

The relevant passage that references the futility of the minimum wage fight in Kansas City.

"Sen. Kurt Schaefer, R-Columbia, says laws already on the books prevent minimum wage preemption, pointing to Section 67.1571, Section 71.010. and Section 290.502 RSMo.

“While the legislature passed House Bill 722 this year to reinforce the legislative intent on minimum wage, the prohibition on St. Louis and Kansas City from passing higher than state minimum wage ordinances is not contingent on HB 722 becoming effective on August 28,” Schaefer wrote. “As stated above, cities are already prohibited under existing law from requiring employers to pay higher than state-set minimum wages.

"Schaefer also points to a letter from Kansas City’s city attorney William D. Geary, who submitted a memo to the mayor and city council concluding the city did not have authority to exceed minimum wage."

Don't get it twisted, TKC supports a lot of what the fair wage fighters are saying . . . But it's better to have a debate based in fact rather than election season rhetoric.

FACT: KANSAS CITY FAIR WAGE ADVOCATES ARE BEING UNFAIRLY MISLED AND STRUNG ALONG BY POLITICOS DURING ELECTION SEASON!!!

All of the rhetoric is geared toward getting people to the polls and saying nice things about their protest . . . Without simply giving these broke-ass protestors the proper information about the laws pertinent to their struggle.

MSM is complicit in this charade because even the newspaper is pushing hope for a KC change rather than simply reporting that Missouri law precludes as much.

Only our blog community has consistently published THE FACTS of this wage struggle which offer very little hope for poorly paid workers or the public saddled with politicos who will willingly exploit a protest movement during campaign season.

  1. What Kansas City can do is make sure that all companies and subcontractors doing business with the city pay $15.00 and hour. The city can put it in every contract and therefore not be violating state law. Problem is the city isn't going to do it because all this bullshit has been nothing less than pandering for votes. Second, no vendor wants to have to sell hot dogs for ten bucks.

  6. That's right! This Senator knows what he's talking about and as usual City of Kansas City, Missouri doesn't. What's worse, City of Kansas City, Missouri has Craigslist lawyers giving them counsel. LMAO

  7. So, in other words, Missouri is such a backward shithole that it has a fucking STATE LAW against requiring a livable wage. Sweet. Where's the door?

  8. No minimum wage law has any meaningful effect. Increasing wages without increasing productivity is simply inflationary to the money supply. The benefits of the increased wages are soon wiped out when prices rise to cover the additional cost of production. Increasing wages only becomes meaningful in a condition of scarcity of people willing to accept a low wage. What is meaningful is guaranteeing that a person who labors receives the material needed to sustain an established quality of life. Money changes value with time, sometimes that period is short. A loaf of bread and a safe, dry and comfortable place to sleep have a more universal and enduring value.

Where does that leave room for those who cannot labor? Charity is a topic for another day.

How do we value each others lives anyway? Not very highly!

  10. It was never about getting fast food workers $15 an hour. It's all about drumming up support for Democrats and union support, specifically SEIU. The Democrats are imploding and the most unions are seeing declining membership. They just went for the largest number of bodies and people they thought wouldn't figure it out. When we inevitably get $10 an hour, SEIU will say "we tried, now pay your dues." The the fast food workers will see little to no increase.
