This year in terms of base salary and benefits . . . Dr. Green's new employer has budgeted $819,092 for the top job.

That's almost a half-mil pay bump from his nearly $342K+ worth of compensation from the KCPS.

The reality is that a great many denizens of the school district are glad he's gone.

No one can deny the guy worked his heart out for the district, but the focus on branding and a great deal of support from a constituency of wealthy white people who live outside the bounds of the District or don't have any real connection has drawn some ire to his efforts.

You are missing the point. This is a good lesson to students that they should stay in school.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that Dr. Green walked out on his contract, if by that you mean he violated it. More likely, he chose to terminate it in a manner specified by the contract.

ReplyDeleteWith all of the "Black Unity" projects and feel good stories floating around, Black people sure leap at the chance to discredit and destroy their own. Leadership is not at all about damning your competition, it's about rising above the competition, which Green did. Lamenting over spilled milk is not the mark of a great leader.
The 'activists' strike again! A man who earned his own way is being condemned for doing what others cannot. That is the Black cultural legacy. Infighting. Instead of focusing on what Green earned with his own credentials, maybe... just maybe the focus should shift to how do we begin to lure and retain solid, competent leadership at the School Board level? Raising objection to somebody elses opportunity to advancement doesn't even come close to addressing more prominent, meaningful issues.

ReplyDeleteIf the Atlanta-area district is STUPID and DESPERATE enough to offer him more money, then no one should blame him for taking it.
ReplyDeleteBig city school superintendents are CIRCUIT-RIDERS!!! Similar to college and professional coaches. They bounce from city to city, moving every few years, after they fail to resurrect a district with a plethora of ills.
If the KCPS Board insists on hiring a replacement based upon race, they are dooming themselves for more failures.
When initially hiring him and they allowed Dr. Green to violate their residency policy (he lived in Bonner Springs KS) the Board lost control.
And as for Airick West, the best thing he could do would be to complete his college degree.
The budget puts his package over $900,000 a year!

Hey "Bob" -- you're wrong. There is no escape clause in Green's contract.

Green needed to get outta of town before this year's state assessments revealed that this year, like the previous 3, the students' made no academic progress.

We should put the tuition in a savings account for them so that after 12 years they would at least have some $200,000 and be no worse off academically.
But, then what would the hanger-ons do for a job?
