Kansas City Saturday Morning Talk

Let's start Saturday morning with our weekly look at mainstream media sit down discourse.

First the Kansas City GOLD STANDARD discussion show, Ruckus, and an important feature interview with departing KCPS Superintendent Dr. Green along with a distinguished panel of local guests:

"Mike Shanin interviews departing KCPS Superintendent Stephen Green about his decision to take a job in Atlanta. Then Steve Rose, Gwen Grant, Pat McInerney and Woody Cozad offer their analysis of the approaching leadership change in the Kansas City Public School district, the latest developments in the minimum wage battle and GOP Kansas lawmakers resisting the influence of special interest groups."

And then . . .

The Kansas City Week In Review newsmaker discussion show focusing mainly on organ donation and the Kraske and Helling discourse domination:

  2. It's always a real treat to get the opinions of people who have no responsibility for much of anything, but insist on telling other people what to do.
And mostly for their own personal benefit.
    What a worthless program!

  3. distinguished panel of local guests?

  5. Getting Steve Roses opinion on anything is just plain stupid and why I will not watch Ruckus.

  6. Gwen Grant hit it clear out of the park.

Seriously, she made great points about the KCSD again and again and again and pulled zero fucking punches.

    It is, what it is.

  7. What is that Chuckie? Haul your ass back to KCC, we don't like two faced assholes here. If you can't speak the truth everywhere then stay away from TKC.

  8. So, the Week in Review, the host asked why we never hear anything about Missouri tax recovery windfalls. Helling ignores the question and in his more biased opinion just said "we do". Really, we don't and won't. Here's why. In Kansas, they apply standards and methods to development. Hence, the huge success of the Kansas Speedway development site and surrounding communities. In Missouri, Kansas City specifically - there is no rhyme or reason to development other than some politically connected person has some bright idea and like clockwork - the Clown Show will pass it, issue bonds for it - no matter how much a failure it is. In a 20 year span, City of Kansas City managed to build a new Kemper Arena - only 20 years later to have it replaced by the Sprint Center - and then complain that the Kemper Arena was a drain on City finances. And we see this pattern over-and-over again. Development in Kansas City makes no sense, is poorly planned if at all and is consistently over budget because the City is skimming money off top to give to friends of various projects. Look at the East Patrol project for evidence, Citadel development, Beacon Hill, Ivanhoe, Streetcar and now the downtown hotel.

  9. The new term for Black grifter is "civil rights leaders". Every Black person that challenges the status quo is not a civil rights leader. It's acceptable to just be a concerned citizen.

  12. 10:20: Don't know about the others, but have you been to Beacon Hill lately? There's some really nice houses being built there.

You clearly don't have sufficient knowledge about Beacon Hill. As a result of a lawsuit and settlement, the land from HEDFC has been sold off to developers from the East Coast and yes, they're building new homes there but only following several years of costly, unnecessary litigation involving HUD, receievership program and several large fines assessed to the City by HUD. What you see before you should have been reality several years ago and with far less public investment.

    Thanks for paying and playing.

  14. Yeah, KCK has plenty adult playgrounds- fast cars, casinos, waterparks, outlet shopping with 'lux' apartments. Those TIF gifted WEST eco devos drew Cerner & the Dairy Farmers while continuing the stall for downtown healthy initiatives grocery, YMCA and walktrails projects.

  15. Putting it another way, 9:26, have you seen the houses that are being built in Beacon Hill?

I'm aware of the rehab fiascos that should have ended the career of a certain clowncil candidate, but I was really surprised at what's going on now in Beacon Hill. I hadn't been there in years, either. It's hard to believe people are building McMansions in an area like that if they don't think it's a decent place to live.
