Sara Smith is dumb as a fucking rock if she thinks she has a clue what verterans think. On veteran related holidays Veterans remember how they fucking worked on their holidays while the civilian bureaucrats took the days off. They remember how they had to sweat their balls off marching on the parade field just to entertain a bunch of fucking VIPs.Veterans remember how they believed all that bullshit about benefits they would never actually see and a VA medical sustem that seems to be out to kill them. They remember how they believed they were serving their country and how that service would be appreciated. What they realized is that they would never have the earning potential of their dodging buddoies who stayed home and went to college instead. Veterans realized that they were just pawns in a big fucking political game. They realise that the only honor is that which they share amoung each other, as the civilian population has no fucking grasp of the scrafices made on a daily basis. Oh yes, veterans reflect! They reflect on what a fucking they took buying into the idea that serving their country was honorable while at home their country was operating like it was being run by the Soviet KGB. Most of all veterans ponder what suckers we were to buy into any of it.

The vet dad who served before the births of his several sons and daughters tamped down terrors he'd seen at war in East Asia. Workaholic and in midlife an alcoholic, he sacrificed lifelong for his family and employer to achieve advances economic in stature over his Irish born parents.
My young family members who serve in several branches today will hopefully have decent compensations when needed. But, it remains to be seen. The military industrial complex is concerned with shareholders more than combatants.
