White Men Play Race Card

In Kansas City, it depends on which color is speaking out as to whether or not the position is racist.

When black leaders spoke against the proposed partnership between Academie Lafayette and Kansas City Public Schools, the KCSTAR championed the district’s position: Any opposition to the partnership was “racist”. The Star chalked up the coalition of religious and community leaders’ stance to “Long-standing tensions between black and white communities". No investigation. Just prejudice. And, lot of folks bought that. The most insidious form of racism is to assume that when Black people speak they are not coming from a thoughtful, fact-based position; it is only their color speaking.

So, now there’s a very well-heeled group of white males who want to offer $12-15 million in support of the partnership. Will the Star brand them with an “R”? Will those in favor of the terms of the partnership be labeled “racist” as those who opposed the terms of agreement were? Will the Star refuse to print any editorials from readers who concur with the all-white, all-male position – as it refused to publish Letters-to-the-Editor from those who opposed the terms of the partnership?

Truth conquers racism. And, we’re short on truth around here. We’re too willing to form opinions based upon the say-so of the self-interested. We don’t seek sources with varying insights because, well, it’s time consuming. We prefer our truths encrusted in certitude and opposing ideas confuse us. We don’t talk to folks who don’t already agree with us. We don’t hold public forums on controversial issues because it might get out of hand and we’d be made to feel uncomfortable. We don’t even call folks “on the other side” because we already know what they think.

If you want to put an end to racism in KC, here’s a starting point: Pick up your phone and call someone who has a position different than yours. Make sure that person is knowledgeable of the proposed partnership’s terms of agreement because that is the source of friction – not race. And, if that phone call leads to a public forum where all the facts are in clear view and reasonable persons can find agreement , be sure to invite me.

  1. My friend, you are a one man flash mob of information.

    Thank you!

  2. Great news. Hope this project moves forward soon.

  3. This is a good thing for all students in the district.

The ONLY people who will be upset are the Usual Suspects with their hands out. Or those thinking they should have final say. And routinely throw the race card when they don't get their way...or their cash.

Yes, I'm talking about Freedom Inc, the Urban League, et all.

  4. The jigs are salivating at stealing this $15 million from whitey and then fuck it all away like they do the taxes that supposedly educate these savage monkeys.
Who in the fuck would want these savages in a decent white area?

  5. There is no "racial battle". NIGGERS are now, firmly in control of the courts, the government, and most governmental offices, like VA, etc. If you were to visit any of these, you'd see how the white folks are so scared to death of offending these animals, the coons are allowed to do exactly as they please. It's really sobering to witness but everyone ought to see it. Planet of the Apes indeed!

  6. The black "clergy & community leaders" are only interested in what's in it for them and how much of the $15m they can skim and scam.

  7. What Black "Community Leaders" fear is that all students will be held to the same level of academic requirements. And NOT just get passed on thru.

And they want that money for "Community Engagement" consulting, and other complete bullshit.

Bottom line: They're afraid that if "Whitey" comes thru with the plan, they'll be stuck holding an Empty Bag. Instead of one Filled With Cash.

  8. Whichever side white people are on, they're racist.

  10. Academie Lafayette will not tolerate students who can't perform so that means that most if not all the students who are currently enrolled at Southwest will have to go somewhere else.
A lot of folks are going to be unhappy.

  11. This is fine Journalism my friend. I don't agree with your statements but i appreciate the info. Thank you Tony Botello.

  12. People who think Academie Lafayette is all white in leadership or student body are way off base. Opponents need to learn more about Academie Lafayette and the IB program.

  13. A rich racist who would like to destroy Black America could use his money most effectively by supporting the Reverends Sharpton and Jackson and all the various Black political and so called religious organizations because the causes, legislation and agendas they support will do more damage to Black Americans than any racist organization. The Black Elite in enriching themselves will do more damage to their own people than any bunch of crackers with a rope could do. These so called leaders will leave their own people ignorant, improvised in a cesspool of crime and disease. Black America needs not fear crackers in white hoods but the boyz in the hood and their enablers in the religious and political leaders of Black America. Malcolm X said “Only a fool lets his enemy educate his children.” The enemies of Black America are their present leaders.

  15. Computers can replace leaders and billions can be saved allowing autonomous communites all over the city. White America has over 50 Trillion stashed overseas so a mere 15 million in the education game these white guys offer is laughable

  17. Read the "Caveat" closely. Essentially it is saying this is risk-free opportunity for LA because KCPS will be on the hook for the bill if the money never shows up...

  19. KCPS should be shut down, we don't need another 20 years of them saying that they are turning things around.

Shame on Stowers for trying to play savior here.

  20. All these comments are right on the money, especially 6:37.
But the real question is do these folks have the guts to send the usual suspects, grifters, and extortionists packing when they put on their usual show?
All the foundations, corporations, and various levels of government who are fed up with being shaken down by the same tired old crowd, and especially residents on the east side who have gotten very tired long ago of being taken advantage of should use this opportunity to once and for all show this crowd the door.
    Welcome to the 21st Century!

  23. I'm so tired of people that don't have the facts about this issue. I'm tired of the race talk, I'm tired of hearing about "what's fair" for KCPS kids (if you want to get into Lincoln, you have to take a placement test whereas the younger kids in their program are grandfathered in, just as it would be at ALHS). I'm super tired of not having a quality, public high school option for my daughter in the next few years.

Last week, an email and link were sent to AL parents from a Support AL High School facebook group. Maybe some of our "community leaders" should actually take the time to watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DvdHnKPVlDc

I'm happy to see KC business leaders willing to make a commitment to actually educating the children of Kansas City....ALL of them. I really hope this goes through.

BTW, shame on you, Tony, for not crediting Will Not Be Televised for this info. You are usually very good at supporting other KC bloggers.

  24. Do we really think all of the parents paying $11K plus to send their kid to Rockhurst, St T, Pembroke, Barstow, etc...are going to now send their kids to a school remotely associated with KCPS?

    ReplyDelete
  25. 9:11 why should you have to take a test to get into a public HS? I dont see that as an option in any of the surrounding districts. Seems like this idea of giving a quality education only to those we deem "worthy" by whatever metric is only used one population.

If AL/SW wants to have a int'l program and its open to all district students who want to attend, I think everyone would be behind that. But designating who does or doesnt get access to good education is only a phenomena you see in inner city schools.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Why take a test, 12:09? Because the International Baccalaureate curriculum is extremely difficult. It's harder than AP.

At first it didn't sound totally fair to me either, then after really looking into the information I found out that currently Lincoln College Prep kids who want to go there HAVE TO TAKE AN EXAM (LCP's middle schoolers are allowed in automatically.) This same system and possibly the same test would be used at ALHS.

Why set your kid up for a rigorous educational plan if they aren't going to be able to make the grade?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why isn't anyone complaining about kids having to take a test to get into Lincoln? Isn't that elitist? I want some righteous indignation stirred up over that point.

    ReplyDelete
  28. They shouldnt test to get into Lincoln either. Everyone at the school will not be required to pursue an IB diploma, so that point is moot. You have IB programs at suburban HS and none of those kids have to test in just to get admittance to the school.

Creating IB admissions inside of a school is fine, one just to get in the building? Seems faulty

    ReplyDelete
  29. It seems to work at Lincoln!

    ReplyDelete

  30. 2:30, You are an idiot.

Of course they have to test to get in. That's the fucking point. It's for students SERIOUS about school. NOT the disruptive drop-out majority at at most KC School District.

Hell, why don't you just hand out a diploma to every 13 year old MOM and her 17 year old Baby-Daddy...and be done with it.

    Again, fucking idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 2:55 thinks you can either be academically elite or doomed to a life of a poverty. Funny thing, the district seems to think that too. Which is why we have 1 school that actually teaches & the remaining students are just SOL on access to even decent instruction.
