So-called Kansas City political experts claim that there is simply no way that Mayor Sly James isn't reelected but now it seems there's a movement to investigate late tax allegations that could change EVERYTHING.

Meanwhile, most newsies aren't really reporting anything about the upcoming election and citizen media long TKC are doing the best to fill that gaping news hole. And it's worth noting that I don't know how I feel about the print date on these dox. Natch.

Sly Taxes
Here are the screen shots from the Jackson County Missouri personal property tax records you can find here.
SlyTax Doc - Shows the overall breakdown of taxes and the dates and times he paid. As you will see in the other docs, Sly did not pay his 2013 taxes (due 12/31/2013) until 12/5/2014. By this point he would have already been notified that he owed 2014 taxes as well.
Didn't meet this requirement he gets enough signatures to qualify for the ballot on 12/9/14, when he files for Mayor (four days after paying his delinquent 2013 taxes)? City ordinance section 204 (b) to be qualified a candidate must be "current on city taxes or municipal user fees, as attested by the candidate to the city clerk in a form prescribed by the Director of Finance." Section (f) "No person shall assume office as a member of the council, including as Mayor, if any grounds for forfeiture of office as provided in this charter exists."
On January 1st 2015, Sly becomes delinquent once again on his 2014 taxes and municipal fees. On January 10th, 2015, candidate filing closes, and knowing he still does not meet the requirements to be on the ballot, does not remove himself nor notify the City Clerk, who then confirms all candidates.
On 2/2/15 Sly James pays his taxes and municipal user fees. (Note The Personal Property Late Filing Penalty)
Also a note that Sly James has not paid his taxes on time since becoming Mayor. He was delinquent in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Sly could burn the 15K on live TV at Cleaver's bankrupt carwash while Pastor Brooks, with his hang down blowing in the wind, interviewed Sly about delinquent taxes and Sly would still get re elected, while the "reporters" at the K C Star revisited millions of articles on Emmitt Till and lamented the horrors of "Industrial Racism".

ReplyDeleteIf the Mayor is disqualified they should open up filing again since we, as taxpayers should not be stuck with the leftovers because the Election Board didn't do its job. They should be required to verify taxes are paid.

Sly James can be stopped. If these allegations prove to be true then it will be on the citizens of KC to enforce the law to get him out of office. I am disappointed in all the mindless comments on this blog regarding this serious issue. There are not two sets of rules and Sly cannot continue to be a dictator. The apathy of these blog comments are so Kansas City which is to sit and accept instead of plan and act.
