Over the years, I have been extremely lucky to have the support of such amazing and strong women such as yourselves. It is because of your continued encouragement and support that I wanted to reach out to you and tell you the real deal. That way it is coming directly from me instead of being allowed to remain in the hands of unreliable and political spin masters.
Several of you have reached out to me but until the legal component was completed, I felt it best not to share anything about why I withdrew. And, because of misinformation and exaggerated tales, so many believe it has something to do with residency issues. That is not the case.
When you're married, there tends to be a division of responsibility. My marriage, much like yours I'm sure, was no different. Since I used to travel a lot when I was the Government Relations Director for the American Cancer Society, my husbands responsibility was to pay our bills and handle other financial responsibilities. That also included everything related to our taxes and tax returns. Every year, I would give Genaro my tax returns and he would take them to our accountant, Al.
When I got home on Wednesday, February 18th, there was a notice in my mailbox from the State of Missouri. It stated that they'd filed a tax lien for taxes from 2010. That year, an extension had been requested since I had to file taxes in both KS and MO for my work with the American Cancer Society. My husband forgot - as we all do from time to time - to get the documents from KS for Al and five years later - vióla, here we are! The happy ending to this story is that I do not in fact owe those taxes to Missouri because I paid them to KS and on the 20th of this month, the tax lien was removed. Whew!
At the time that I received the letter and without knowing all the details, my campaign team and I made the decision to withdraw so that I could handle the situation as quickly as possible. I still believe that my decision to withdraw was in the best interest of Kansas Citians. It was never my intention to allow for such distractions to dominant my race.
If you are like me then you hope that when people hear your name it is in a positive manner. I not only hope that the response reflects my abilities and successes, but also, if it is someone who knows me well, I believe the memory will reflect on my heart and who I really am.
Often titles have been attached to my name - leader, mentor, board member, political director, advocate, county legislator - and the list goes on. Over time, there are other titles that people may have given to me -ballsy or aggressive and, I'm sure there are titles not worth mentioning.
However, the truth is, there will always be someone that will not like you or me. These mean-spirited individuals will go out of their way to make up titles and names as ways of destroying our good name. If you're involved with politics long enough, you learn who these individuals are and to keep your distance from them because, no matter what you do, the mean-spirited and crazy people will use the only thing they have in their tool box - verbal destruction of your good name. Over time, I have come to realize that word does get out that they are not very credible nor reliable sources.
As I get older, titles have become less important and doing what is right and best supersedes those titles. I've also come to realize that true friends and family don't care about titles but instead about the way the feel in your presence and the great memories you've shared together.
Again, I am so honored to have served you for 8 years and look forward to continuing to do what I love best...serve our community in whatever role the future has in store.

One question you never answered when I asked you directly, what address did your personal W2 form use? Your federal tax return? In a fair world the authorities would be investigating you. ReplyDeleteI have to be honest I like TGR, she has never tried to harm me, bully me, take advantage of me or ride the knife in my back that the "popular" or "momentary power brokers" have placed there like Michelle Word, P Yelder, Valerie Coyazo, Sheila Williams and Cindy Circo. I know I have left a few out but they being the most disgusting people I have ever had the displeasure of coming across.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand her position BUT she faced everyone and at least made a statement, she did not whisper behind peoples backs, she did not make up stories and say to people "OMG stay away from them, you'll never get a contract if my boss finds out your involved with them" etc etc etc and we live with this sort of bullshit day in and day out sharing stories you never saw but only heard.
The truth is that had TGR stayed exactly where she was she would have still been there today, voted back in over and over again like that useless snake oil salesgirl Cindy Circo.
I say good luck to her and I wish her nothing but the best in her future.

It's always and only who you know, who all your wonderful friends and groupies are, where you can go to make yourself feel like a celebrity, although a D-lister, and what you're going to run for next.
The local publicly-funded trough is so large and much of it hidden from view that there's little question TGR will find a spot among all the others snouts.
The carnival will continue.
