Graduation season is almost here and amid a great deal of (deserved) negativity regarding the KCPS . . . Here's a notable achievement touted by a denizen of our blog community . . .
"Thirty-nine students will be graduating with both two-year college degrees and high school diplomas this spring thanks to the Kansas City Public Schools Early College Academy. The students were honored as KCPS Scholar Superstars during the April 22 Board of Directors meeting."
It's a great start and with a two-year degree these grads could start out one step above the box store cashier job that's waiting for them after a 4-year university education and more than $50K worth of loans.
Still . . . I'm guessing they didn't have to pay for the 2 year certificate so at the very least they manged to avoid paying into the modern day higher ed scam . . . Which actually shows they're smarter than most.

ReplyDeleteThere is no such thing as a "two-year college degree" unless you're talking about a postgraduate (master's or doctoral) degree. The two-year "associate" programs give you a certificate or diploma, not a degree. A lot of this nonsense is cooked up by the same people who talk about a "high school degree," something else that does not exist. The minimum degree is a four-year bachelor's degree. The feel-good nonsense all began years ago when parents started lobbying for "graduation" ceremonies for kids finishing junior high, middle school, even kindergarten. It's all bullshit.
ReplyDeleteAsk any college teacher where these kids go after their "degrees". They can't spell, they can't do math, they can't talk, they couldn't point out Missouri on a map if it was highlighted.
