TKC FACT CHECK!!! LIKE IT OR NOT, TRANSIT ACTIVIST CLAY CHASTIAN WON LAST NIGHT'S KANSAS CITY MAYORAL DEBATE!!!

Kansas City desperately wants to think of itself as a big city but our provincial politics suggest otherwise.

Last night transit activist Clay Chastain came to town and taught Mayor Sly James a lesson about major metropolitain political debate.

To wit . . .

KANSAS CITY CHEERLEADERS MIGHT NOT LIKE IT BUT CLAY CHASTAIN DESTROYED MAYOR SLY JAMES WITH RELENTLESS ATTACKS ON CITY HALL MANAGEMENT, LEADERSHIP AND OVERALL VISION FOR THIS TOWN!!!

It wasn't even close . . . The Mayor was playing defense all night and simply didn't have an answer for one fiscal fact check after the next.

Kansas City residents might not agree with Mr. Chastain's light rail advocacy but there's no doubting his passion or the fact that he's the only guy to ever win a citywide transit election.

Last night the Mayor was simply going through the motions and the crowd was bemused by the style of Vincent "General" Lee who played the role of preacher, grandpa and fool.

Seriously, I know we're all supposed to be nice and play along with this kindly old man but that's part of Kansas City's amateur night politics. Clearly this guy didn't have anybody who loved him or wanted to keep him from embarrassing himself and his public debate spectacle was nearly as embarrassing as the fact that some satirical boobie blog breaks more news than any other metro columnist in town . . . Now can we all see the real consequences of Kansas City political amateur night???

But I digress . . .

This was a nice political event for nice people put together by the local League Of Women Voter and the fact that Kansas City is more comfortable with keeping our politics non-competitive isn't just about civility . . . It's part of the pathological politeness that poisons the culture of this city and also keeps our pro-sports teams from any kind of meaningful victory.

Still there were a lot of good people in the crowd who have devoted their careers and lives to public service. Here's a look @ Richard Tolbert talking it up . . .

Our pal Tracy was in good spirits and probably talking about her new blog project with Phil Cardarella . . .

Of course the forum was heavily moderated and the crowd couldn't ask direct questions.

Mayor Sly played the celebrity as always. .

Again, point by point at least when it came to conservative fiscal policy . . . Clay knew his stuff and really offered a conservative approach to Kansas City governance.

Mayor Sly played it cool, which again, might have been smart.

He's hoping that people are satisfied with the status quo or at least he's counting on pundits and politicos who claim his Administration is exceptionally popular.

3/4ths of the way through the event more than half the crowd had abandoned the debate suggesting the very real prospect that voter turnout this election could be less than 10% which is what most experts are predicting.

Developing . . .

Yes Byron he will, he also said last night his first executive action would be to permanently ban you from anything Kansas City before you have a chance to roll in claiming to be his brother while spreading all kinds of trashy inbred stories about the family.

  7. What a pitiful example of why KCMO is not only NOT a national or even regional player among cities, but not even the hub of the KC metro area.
Here's a city of over 450,000 residents and this is what passes for a serious debate among MAYORAL candidates about the challenges and opportunities the community and its residents face.
And the best informed and most articulate participant doesn't even live here!
You can't make this stuff up!

  8. Byron said "Now, if Clay wins will he have to actually move to Kansas City?"

Byron should have to move to this city to comment on this blog. No one gives a single shit what Byron thinks. And he will call me a nazi in 5, 4, 3, 2, ....

  9. I prefer Byron over 8:22...

  10. Seems like in a city that is 60 percent white having a non black male mayor every 20 years or so couldn't hurt. Should we call Eric Holder and see if that would be OK?

  11. My vote is for Clay. The people who DO vote feel the same way. This Dark Horse could beat James.

  13. Byron won't be coming to Killa City as the city has a ordinance against "sheep in the back yard" of the trailer park.

Word has it, Toni Bones has a pad next to her trailer in Liberty.

9:25, as you are clearly a BIG IDEAS MAN I would suggest that you waste no more time following TKC and instead devote your massive intellect into your own blog, which will no doubt gain a massive daily following.

Until then, kindly shut the fuck up and get back out there SETTING THE WORLD ON FIRE with your BIG IDEAS!!!

I saw the debate and even I gots to admit that the white boy done out matriculated Dr. Sly with his learned electrocution of the language. I would suggest that Brother Sly take some public speaking lesson from Congressman Reverend (don’t ever forget he is a man of the cloth) Cleaver who is a great speaker and one of the masters of reticulation to ever speak in the House of Representatives since Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., who by the way was also a man of the cloth. Keep the faith baby! Do I get an Amen?!? Remember to support the Lord’s work by giving and if you ain’t got no money, put a IOU in the collection plate because Jesus will collect some time. Thank you for your time.

  23. Clay Chastain won last night's debate hands down. Sly James and his twin "The General" didn't land any punches last night. Clay was very strong. #TKO

  24. If Clay wins...the council will just over turn the voice of the people.....again

  25. Clay was definitely the most articulate and had the best ideas. Clay as a person leaves a lot to be desired. He is obsessive, and incapable of working with others. He is one of my least favorite persons.

Sly was his usual good ole boy arrogant self. Nothing new upstairs since he got out of the Marines.

Vincent "The General" Lee was definitely there to help us see the real side of Sly. Some of his "fool" routines were Sly's everyday method of talking down to the people.
I was really put off by the "I'm a real tough leader who has taken the responsibility of doing what should be done even if it is against what the majority want" speech of Sly's. Without exaggeration I heard similar translations of Adolph Hitlers speeches.

I'm particularly interested in Chastain's plan to arm school kids.

And his idea to move the entire airport closer to downtown with light rail service just rings of that ol' conservative, fiscal policy!

Too bad he'll miss the Call forum on Saturday. He has to be back home in ol' Virginny.
