DEE EVANS SUSPENDS CAMPAIGN AND ENDORSES QUINTON LUCAS!!!

Kansas City KICK-ASS Insiders tell us that Dee and Quinton had dinner last night at Gates BBQ where they discussed the 3rd and how they could work together. After the tragic death of Dee's husband she was NOT able to run the kind of campaign she wanted.

This effectively makes Quinton the next councilman . . . Although Dee could still place in the top 2.

Here's the presser FIRST on TKC.

Dee Evans, Candidate for City Council, Suspends Campaign

Kansas City, MO – Neighborhood leader and candidate for City Council in the 3rd District At-Large, Dee Evans, has announced today that she will be suspending her campaign. Evans, whose husband unexpectedly passed away recently, was one of the leading contenders for the open council seat.

“It is important for the 3rd District to unify behind common goals in this City Council election. Due to recent events in my personal life I am unable to put forth 100% of my time towards those goals at this time. The goals of the 3rd District remain my priority, and this is the best move towards accomplishing those goals. Additionally I would like to thank those individuals that supported my candidacy by volunteering. We will keep up the work towards a better Kansas City,” said Evans.

Ms. Evans stressed open lines of communication to residents and her past work with neighborhoods as her main platform during her campaign. She looks forward to helping the next Councilperson work towards those goals. Furthermore, Evans offers her strong endorsement of Quinton Lucas for the 3rd District At-Large.

“I will always be an active voice for neighborhoods in Kansas City. My priorities are in line with those of Quinton Lucas and I look forward to helping him achieve the goal of making Kansas City a better place to live, work and raise a family,” said Evans.

Dee Evans is an active neighborhood leader in Kansas City. She has spent her entire life building coalitions and working with city leaders. She has been an advocate for neighborhoods by serving on multiple commissions and boards.

  1. Dee is a very nice woman.

She is doing the right thing for her district and it was good that she met with Quinton. Shows that she has the best interests of voters at heart.

    Hope she feels better soon.

  2. What exactly are the "goals" of the Third District? And I've engaged Ms. Evans several times and I hardly believe our communication can be categorized as "open" communication. Any work she's done in Beacon Hill has been ineffectual, at best. She's no advocate. Opportunist? That sounds more like it.

  3. Hey, 10:59. Her husband of 30 years died March 1. You think that might be a reason her heart was no longer in the campaign?

As for Tony and his "KICK-ASS tipsters" and "insiders" -- sounds to me like the lady issued a rather broad and general press release.

Yeah, that's some job of reporting, Tony.

  4. "Here's the presser FIRST on TKC."

    BWAAAHAHAHA!

Yep, the lady sends out a blast e-mail to her entire list, and Tony is the first to print it!

Tell me, Tony. Did you even bother to call the lady to verify and do any follow-up?

  5. Classy move by Dee. It wouldve been very easy for her to attack Lucas in the General. She chose to make the campaign about more than herself. Other local leaders should take note.

    Mr. Tony,

Ms. Dee Evans never should have signed up to run. She let Freedom use her until they realized what a huge mistake they made.

Her leaving the council race leaves a vacuum the size of chia seed.

  7. Wow. What happens if Dee Evans makes the general election ballot? Would Lucas automatically win?

She didn't have enough family and friends voting for her for that. Don't fret your head about it.

  10. She had a ton of support with the black churches and probably the most active grassroots coalition. She could easily still place in the top two. Still a solid move towards unifying the black community.

  11. It's a breath of fresh air for a couple of candidates in KC to actually care about their community like Dee and Quinton. She put residents above her own ambitions and Quinton is still idealistic about government. You don't usually see this from candidates in Freedom wards.

  12. The bottom line is electing 3rd-District persons who will help keep the District from looking like hell on earth. And, those who will not fear the so-called SEVEN MAJORITY VOTERS on serious issues for center-city community and residents.

  13. 3rd district will remain underrepresented. Dee Evans is a buffoon who did not garner support from the residents of her district and was dismissed as a serious candidate by engaged voters in this city.
Her fundraisers can attest to her dismal performance as a leader.

Freedom should never had listened to her aunt, Yvonne Wilson, to support Evans. An embarrassment to all involved.

Personally, I do feel sorry for Evans as she was used then tossed aside.

  14. Well I've spent my life coming to the realization that the amount off bullshit politicians feed us hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly, etc is unfathomable.

  15. "Black Churches", where shit comes to pay.....

  16. Again, Dee Evans' husband of more than 30 years died on March 1. Don't read anything more in her withdrawal than that.

But 11:54 asks the $64,000 question. Remember, even a total loon like Tracy Ward once survived a primary.

Since the general election ballots aren't printed, can Evans withdraw if she gets to the general? Does she stay on the ballot regardless of her desire to withdraw, or will she be allowed to withdraw and the third place finisher qualify? Or will only Lucas appear on the ballot?

  17. Wow! Tony reprints a press release, and it's an "exclusive."

Nobody "prints" anything anymore wildman. Please go back to your typewriter and work on your resume.

  19. Well, excuse me Wild Man. Let me try again.

"Wow! Tony publishes a press release on his blog and calls it an exclusive."

Does that fit your rigorous standards?

If so, do you care to address the point that it's pretty lameass to take an e-mail Evans sent to every media and pretend it came from a "kickass tipster" and/or "insiders"?

Or do you really think it's that hard to get on candidate e-mail lists and Tony sweated and strained to do it?

  20. Can we talk about some real news. The Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund is no longer funding neighborhoods, though its the residents who keep the program afloat. Its residents who eat at restaurants daily paying into the pot for events to be in the neighborhoods. I watched the finance committee meeting on Wed and seen how sneaky they removed neighborhoods as eligible organizations for funding. I wonder why no neighborhoods was present to testify about change. Now I read in the Call that the ordinance was slip in and no one was notified. Neighborhoods received an email just 3 weeks ago that the city will no longer provide printing of flyers or newsletters. Troy and this council has taken way all funds to neighborhood groups. Troy is a sneaky two-faced lier. I hope the neighborhood folks rise up against this corrupt government. I will stand with them when you do.

  21. The Tourism funds are the least of neighborhood problems.
Hundreds of thousands of dollars were taken out of PIAC funds which should be used for street and sidewalk repair and dumped into one magic fund or another for the streetcar and planning for the extension.
And those funds were taken with the full knowledge and agreement by councilmembers like Jermaine Reed.
    Don't go to the cupboard.
    It's bare.

  23. Tony 's Kansas City - opinions, jokes and stories. Key word "jokes" If this is journalism and based on posted comments, jokes would be the most appropriate description. Exact reason nothing gets done in that city. Most are angry has beens that have done nothing to help grow it out of the 70's mentality.
