Many education advocates want to spend more money on teachers and in the classroom. But in Kansas City, the amount spent per student, approximately $16,000 per pupil per year, is already very high. The likely problem, as highlighted by Schweich’s audit in St. Joe, is that the money is often not making it to the classroom; it is being eaten up by administrators through bad policy and perhaps even fraud."
Sadly, we don't advise anyone to hold their breath waiting for this audit . . . Instead, history tells us that a tax increase with no questions asked is usually the way things go in Kansas City.

"Race is the first and foremost consideration in almost anything to do with the district. Once you decide which way you are going on [race] then you make the decision on the merits of whatever is left. And it has been that way for years. ...THERE'S THE PROBLEM!
ReplyDeleteWhen the District had 72,000 students the levy was 4.95. Now the District has 15,000 students and the levy is 4.95.
ReplyDeleteRather than raise taxes for a failing school district how about we put all staff and administration on a pay plan tied to productivity, student success rates and school system achievement? The we will either have something back for our tax dollars or we will not be burning money in one of the worst school systems in America.

When three years of honest accounting and provisional accreditation are considered great accomplishments for a school district, it gives you a real idea of how dysfunctional and corrupt KCPS has been for decades.
