Dr. Ernest Evans: Bad News About Crime
In some earlier memos I have noted that in the aftermath of the Ferguson tragedy (Michael Brown was killed on Aug. 9, 2014) that there appears to have been a major surges in homicides in black neighborhoods around the US. While it is still much too early to be sure that this is the case, some early 2015 crime stats indicate that this crime surge is coming into 2015. Here are the current homicide stats for the nation's three biggest cities:
NYC: 49 homicides so far in 2015; 42 at this point in 2014
Chicago: 44 homicides so far in 2015; 36 at this point in 2014
Los Angeles: 33 homicides so far in 2015, 25 at this point in 2014.
Moreover, the state of Missouri has the highest per capita black homicide rate of any state in the nation, and here are the homicide stats for its two big cities:
KCMO: 12 so far in 2015, compared to 10 at this point in 2014
Saint Louis: 22 homicides so far in 2015; compared to 18 at this point in 2014
The data at this point is not conclusive enough to support any firm conclusions, but there is a growing body of evidence that the mishandling of the Ferguson tragedy by most of the nation's political class has touched off a wave of criminal violence in black neighborhoods all over the nation.

A Kansas City trip hit a sour note for a national touring band.
Chicago Afrobeat Project played two shows in Lawrence before stopping at a Kansas City hotel. But before heading back to Chicago, they learned their musical instruments had been stolen. "We got to our hotel pretty late, it was about 3:00 in the morning," says musician Luc Parcell, "we woke up about 9:30 to a phone call. "Long story short, some police officers were like, 'we think your van was broken into.'"
