Rage Against Koch Bros. Fighting Solar Power

On a cloudy day, it's important to note this AWESOME TKC READER and his controversial perspective on the ongoing Koch Bros. solar power attack.

Check it:

Koch Bros, Utilities trying to in influence KS lawmakers into slowing renewables even more...

Looks like the lawmakers in Kansas are under heavy influence from the Koch Bros. and IOUs (investor owned utilities like KCP&L and Westar to squash renewables (mostly solar and wind).
They want to add an additional taxes to renewables and/or charge a higher rate to folks that want solar. Why? Because these companies make their profits from fossil fuels (coal and natural gas). They have never had any real competition and were pretty much allowed to make fat profits without worrying about competition. That is changing so they are turning their influence to Kansas lawmakers. They see that renewables are actually going to be a much cheaper alternative than paying an electric bill that doubles every 5-6 years.

Even if rates did not increase at all over the next 25 years (as if that is going to happen), solar would cost about 1/2 as much as your electric bill. The status quo will more likely cost electric customers more like 4 to 6 times more for energy over the next 25 years.

Tell the lawmakers in Topeka that additional taxes and higher rates will only cost you more money and limit or slow alternatives, leaving the Koch Bros. and IOUs without competition for awhile longer. How much money do the Koch Bros. need? They want more? They are Fossil Fools that just want more than their fair share. Don't let them keep slowing or locking out competition. Then they can own the entire energy production sources (coal and natural gas) for Kansas and continue their corrupt influence throughout our corrupt political system.

  4. Yank the subsidies from the solar industry rent seekers and let them fry birds on their own dime. Maybe they can kill the eagles that the wind turbines somehow miss.

  5. Solar costs upfront, yes. But if you amortize the cost over 25 years it will kick ass and take names. The utilities and Koch Bros. know this and want to add additional taxes. Wait until energy storage comes down a bit and folks will be leaving the utilities right and left.

  6. Well that should help the democrats keep Warren Buffet's furniture mart in business for the next 25 years.

  8. Without subsidies solar is just cool tech. For small ops off grid power it's fine. The panels are life limited and usually require replacement after 25 years.
