PETITION EFFORT PERSISTS TO PUT THE KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR EXPANSION PLAN TO A CITYWIDE VOTE!!!

The only way the Kansas City toy train streetcar moves ahead is by a shameful bit of gerrymandering that excludes the majority of residents who are stuck paying for the "folly trolley" without getting a say on its expansion.

To wit . . .

ACTIVISTS CONTINUE TO PUSH FORWARD A PETITION EFFORT THAT WOULD OFFER PROTECTION FOR KANSAS CITY VOTERS LIVING OUTSIDE THE SKETCHY TDD!!!

The petition that would require a citywide vote before the city could plan or fund any expansion of the Kansas City streetcar system.

So far they've collected 1000 signatures and moving closer to their 7k goal every day which should put them on the ballot barring any misdeeds from Mayor and city council.

Here's the latest word from this crew:

"Smart KC’s petition drive is moving forward this month full steam ahead. As a result of this effort we have also cultivated many new friends and allies with civic-minded organizations. If you are interested in participating in this effort feel free to contact us."

Amid the current budget debate, the activists from SmartKC seem to be winning the hearts and minds of Kansas City neighborhoods hurt but the misplaced priorities of Mayor Sly and the outgoing City Council completely focused on downtown hipster living space above all else.

  1. Ask Clay about these petitions. There is a very real chance they could be thrown off the ballot.

  5. Doesn't matter 7:33, majority votes in this town mean nothing.

  6. Can you list the locations and times they are collecting signatures to make sure that all voters in KCMO get the opportunity to vote on possible toy train expansion.

  7. Considering opposition to streetcars in Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Arlington, San Antonio, and other cities, there is hardly a groundswell of support for these obsolete systems.

  8. Don't stop the streetcar or the new airport, Russ Johnson needs those places to put his new bronze plaque.

  9. Didn't we already vote this down?
