"In order to have the open streets event, the streets will be closed, presumably so people can use them for anything other than what they were designed to handle: automobiles.
"Details of the event’s $85,000 budget through a Sunshine Request include arts and crafts, bounce houses, and face painting ($7,000) and other “entertainment” that includes a DJ ($8,000). The two biggest line items are advertising ($13,000) and the event management fee ($25,000)."
Closing down streets in order to celebrate "OPEN STREETS" sounds like typical Kansas City logic as transit, cyclist and pedestrian advocacy continue to bankrupt this cowtown.

ReplyDelete$85,000? Hell, the city just paid out $750,000 to an ex employee which Troy Schulte, Terry Leeds, and Sherri McIntyre used the "budget process" to get rid of because they didn't like her. The city lost. Fire all three of them.
ReplyDeleteImagine the amount of traffic normally going down Ward Parkway, and re-route it to State Line and Wornall. Gridlock for 8 hours. Block my driveway and your car gets keyed.
