  1. And I am sure a certain group of people will really follow or be made to follow those rules.

  2. Notice how they never mentioned to the voters this whole system will start falling to pieces sooner than later and have to be replaced in 30 years?

  3. I wonder how long it will be till the first thug or thugs open fire into one of these things at rival gang members taking advantage of the free ride.

    1. Why? You're doing a fine job of it. Sharp contrast to the autocratic, tone-deaf disaster area that seems to be the usual messaging about this from City Hall.

  5. Looks like this manual was written by the engineering firms. Doubt that any one in PW could understand let alone properly manage the train line. Let's look for updates(or none) in the future that are done by PW so we can laugh, brewaaa, and watch the structures slowly degrade and maint. deferred. This is KC and we would not want any behavior changes in this city gov.

  6. 8:37: Can we hope for success in spite of the fact we resent the dishonest "election" that brought it about?

  7. The manual brings up an interesting point about future, non-streetcar construction that needs to occur within the "streetcar envelope". Any utility work on behalf of a facility adjacent to the track, or utility or paving work done by the City within this envelope, will have to coordinate with the streetcar. Considering the City's current poor performance coordinating utility work and street closures, it makes you wonder how long you will have to wait for a "streetcar envelope" permit to do any necessary work... or how long the streetcar will be out of commission each time work within this zone goes beyond the overnight maintenance window.

  8. If Reardon is so interested in collaboration and eliminating unnecessary layers of bureaucracy in the transit system, why doesn't he start by doing away with the "Streetcar Authority" and folding that under the management of the ATA?
I'll bet the whole fiasco couldn't stand the bright sunlight of scrutiny from objective people who might demand some results and accountability.

  11. 30 year lifespan? that's really good.

there's no busses run by the KCATA from before 2002 at this point. the entire current system is expected to have a 12-16 year replacement cycle.

20 years is the lifespan of a really, really well built urban freeway.

  12. has anyone compared this to the KCATA operating guide?

some of this is clearly for future segment preparation. for example there's no switch track on the system right now
