MUST READ!!! GOLDEN GHETTO WHITE LADY POLITICAL FIGHT RAISES KANSAS FEAR OF TEA PARTY DESTROYING PUBLIC SCHOOLS!!!

This morning we have MUST READ testimony from a valiant Joco mom regarding the grassroots nearby political fight.

To wit . . .

CHECK THIS EPIC TESTIMONY AND POLITICAL OP/ED REVEALS JOHNSON COUNTY REPUBLICAN LADY CAT FIGHTING!!!

Here's the word:

Blue Valley Board of Education Tea-Party-Takeover Attempt

I'm a moderate JoCo Republican and I've been marginally involved with the party in the past, but I stopped all that when the Tea Party crazies came along. (They would call me a RINO, so I feel perfectly OK calling them "crazy.")

Anyhoo...I have kids in the Blue Valley School District & I'm following the upcoming April 7 Board of Education election very closely. BVSD BOE President & long-serving BOE member, Pam Robinson, is being challenged by a doctor's wife who has lived in the district for @ 5 years. Pam Robinson's opponent, Alana Roethle, has never volunteered in BVSD in any capacity, never served on a BVSD committee, never volunteered in a Blue Valley school, nothing. Suddenly, Roethle's going from Zero to 80 - running for the BV BOE! She wants to "identify efficiencies" and "reduce costs in these 'lean times." Having lived in this district for probably more years than this Alana lady has been alive, and having served BVSD more in one day than this woman has served in her life, I'm pretty sure I have a handle on how this district operates - and it's an efficient district overall. Even the moderate Republicans are picky about how their tax dollars are spent, and the BVSD BOE operates with this in mind. If Alana Roethle had spent any time volunteering in our district and/or if she had her kids in our schools, she would understand this. The front-liners see it every day.

But the bigger story here has to do with why this Alana person decided to run in the first place: My sources tell me she's a "plant" by Tea Party King/Leawood Senator Jeff Melcher. Jeff Melcher owes his office to campaign funding that can be tied-back to the Koch Brothers - and I personally believe that's where this story leads. The Blue Valley School District is one of the crown jewels of public education nationwide - facts bear this out over & over. But the Tea Party despises public education, as you know. They despise educated people in general. My personal belief, which is shared by others, is that the Tea Party hopes to gain control of the BV BOE over time, and perhaps other key BOEs across KS (including SMSD & Olathe), in an effort to slash programs and ultimately undermine these premier districts. This is on their warped agenda. So long as we have strong models of public education in our state and across the country, Tea Partiers will never be happy. The Blue Valley School District flies in the face of what the Tea Party has to say about public education, so they want to take it down. I have heard this from more than one person "in-the-know" and I believe it.

Now, you may think I'm some crazy white lady who started my Friday happy hour a little early this week, but I have every reason to believe I'm right on this. And, the reason I'm writing you is because your Dead-Tree Media friends at the KC Star will not cover this story, for whatever reason. Steve Rose will not cover this story, as in he will not even mention the election and/or point out that Alana Roethle is a private-school mom who hasn't served the district one day in her life - yet here she is running for the BOE.

If you want to check out this story, here are some places to start:

Alana Roethle's campaign FB page

Pam Robinson's re-election website

If I had more time, and fewer kids, I'd run for the BV BOE - though now I fear that our district is becoming increasingly conservative and I'm too liberal for many folks around here. However, I still believe that most BV patrons would be appalled at the idea of a Tea Party BOE Take-Over...and this election is one step in that direction.

  1. Tea Party "Despises educated people and public education".

    "People in the know..."

Look lady, she can run on the merits of her stand on the issues just like you can.

The entire Department of Education should be abolished and control of all money for public education should be sent to the states to use as they see fit.

Your whiney, holier than thou sanctimony, is based on emotional Liberal boilerplate strategy of attacking the Tea Party "boogeymen" as opposed to having to actually debate the issues.

I am not sure if Alana Roethle's ideas or campaign is worthy of a vote or not, I do know, that your approach, the Liberal, feel good, guilt trip bullshit, has jumped the shark.

  2. ^Agreed^

Did it ever occur to you, ma'am, that one not need be "involved in any committee" to run for office? In fact, some just may look at the lack of involvement as a strength. Nah, it's a tea party conspiracy. Sounds more like sour grapes to me.

  3. Pam needs to wake up and smell the roses and not have her friends write really plain to see through letters to TKC. Pam has been king of her own little hill for while now and all of a sudden it looks like someone has come along and wants to challenge her position. Grow up its how the world works.

You ladies in the BVSD need to all get jobs or some really involved hobbies so you have something to take up your time during the day and not running loose trying to make people see evil where evil isn't.

Anyhoo by the way are you the nut job that thought the statue at the Overland Park Arboretum was pornography/obscenity and cost the taxpayers large amounts of money to get it removed but failed to do so.?

  4. She's better looking. I'd vote for her.

  5. OMG. The Koch brother are not trying to take over your school, and you do realize they do not just give to Tea party candidates, right?
Maybe a fresh set of eye is the answer and sacrificing the sacred cow is easier than that the way its always been.
Hun get a hobby. Smoke some weed, But eh BVSD is not under attack.

  6. Run chicken little run, the sky is falling.

BVSD is full of more fucked up crazy people than just these three.

  7. The choice is clear. A Tea Party candidate that realizes public dollars must be used for the good of all and a candidate that believes public tax dollars are for her elitist benefit

    Good for her!

May Melcher and his ilk drown in their own crocodile tears.

  12. Does Alana's children attend BVSD ? If not there is probably a lot of truth to her argument against Alana. Maybe you should check the information before you respond. It sounds like a lot of Tea Party members just want to toe party lines.

  17. I could not be happier---destroy the much praised JOCO school districts. Then middle and upper class parents will move over here to Missouri and our housing values will shoot up. There are really good school districts on the Missouri side---Park Hill, Liberty Lee's Summit, etc.
Come on over before Governor Brokeback and the Koch's ruin what was attractive about Blue Valley and Shawnee Mission Districts.
    Hooray !

  18. I do have to question the motives of a person who would run for the Board of Education whose kids do not attend the schools! Alana's school-aged kids do not attend Blue Valley schools. They are in private schools. If she has time to spare (and being a mother of 4 kids aged 7 and under, who wouldn't have time to spare?) maybe she should be on the Board of the schools her kids do attend. Look into it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. She is paying taxes either way you look at it 4:12 so why can't she run for the position?

Maybe her kids are attending a parochial school and then for middle school will start attending BV schools

  20. I have been told the Kansas City Star is all for Pam Robinson so that in itself is reason to vote against her.

  22. Sure, the Tea Partier can run for the position, but the JoCo people who value public ed can call her out on it. And they are, which is fair play.

JoCo people need to put down their Starbucks & their iPhones and pay attention to this election race, because - like a poster above alluded to - if the schools go down, property values go down with them.

  24. Has Roethle ever voted in a local election? NOPE,

Did she host a fat-cat fundraiser for Brownback? YEP!

Did Brownback appoint her to some state board? OF COURSE.

it's not just Melcher. There are several other hard-right conservatives telling her what to say.

With NO CHILDREN in BV Schools, she's not qualified.

  25. Jeez Lookeez pub skool patrons ALL taxpayers of a district shall have the right to seek office. It's PUBLIC -- 30+ schools and even if a HOMESCHOOL parent chose to serve BV BOE perfectly fine! Maybe the 'private' perspective will enhance the perspectives there...you know there is such distinction where families work/worship/weekend at what waters... my oh my exclusivity..

    ReplyDelete
  26. Sure, the Tea Party Lady can run for the school board in Blue Valley, but voters need to know that her school-aged children aren't in public school and that she has close ties to Brownback & his cronies. Make that clear to the public, and let the voters decide.

And she can cut the B.S. about wanting to "serve" the district, because if she wanted to "serve" and know anything about the reality of public school operations, there are numerous opportunities for ALL patrons to volunteer, even homeschoolers & Tea Partiers. Because they would want to do that...to "serve" the district. Right.

  31. 34th Stater, has Roethle truly not ever voted in a local election? Is this information available online? I'd like to check it out. Thanks.

  32. So if I'm reading the original post and relevant comments correctly, (and if their facts are indeed correct) a person running for Blue valley school board does not have kids in the district, has never voted in a local election in 5 years of living in the area, may be backed by anti-public education types (In Kansas?- do tell) and doesn't have any background of volunteering for or other involvement in the district?

I'm not sure how she could win against Pam Robinson who is a very well-known and well-respected board member who I think is actually the president of the board right now. Unless, that is, the voters in the Blue valley district are not informed of the issues and don't bother to vote. But wait, it's Blue valley... of course they are informed and vote. NOT! With this never being covered by local media and no way to know except sorting through the disgusting comments on this blog to read the (possibly; who fact-checks) relevant ones.

These people turn out at the same abysmal 10% rate as the rest of the country for these little local elections, and that's how these people get elected. Their handful of supporters (call them tea partiers or whatever, doesn't matter) ALL drag their tea-partying selves to the polls and do what they are told by the anti-tax nutjobs who think that public education isn't a right. If you want your kids to get a good white upper middle class conservative anti-tax education without having to rub shoulders with the common folk, send your kids to the private schools. If they want to send their kids to private schools they have to pay twice-- pay taxes and pay private school tuition! Wahhh! So what do they want to do? Cut the taxes going to public education!

Like I said, if anyone knew what was going on in Blue valley, there is no way this lady would win. But HOW do they know what is going on? There is no media coverage (dead tree or otherwise) and this gets snuck (sneaked?) right in under their noses.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 11:27, the question is not whether she can seek the position. Of course she can-- and since when is "pays her taxes" a prerequisite to filing for elected office? But I digress...The issue is, WHY is she seeking the position? Why would a person who sends her own kids to private schools, who has never shown an interest in volunteering for the schools in any capacity, and according to another poster, has not showed enough interest to vote in prior school board elections -- want to run for and hold this office?

That is the question. Roethle says she wants to "improve inefficiencies" in the district. Why and how does she want to do that? Will she put her kids in the school district if it is more "efficient?"

She is a Melcher/Tea Party/Brownback plant just like the original writer said. Ask yourself why she wants to run and you have your answers. Not for the good of the district.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sure, any taxpayer can run for a school board position in their respective district. And anybody running for a school board position in a Johnson County district should be highly scrutinized by the voters - because schools are still the county's main draw, one of its primary assets. As the schools go, so goes the county.

It's noteworthy when someone - anyone - who has never demonstrated prior interest in the district suddenly shows up & runs for the Blue Valley School Board. It's even more noteworthy when that individual has children in private school and asserts that "efficiencies" need to be achieved in the district. What "efficiencies" are we talking about, exactly? Blue Valley is one of the best-performing districts in the nation by every published standard.

But wait! Maybe this lady's kids attend private school because of these Blue Valley "inefficiencies." If so, why doesn't she tell us more about that? In fact, whenever someone posts a question about where her kids attend school on her *public campaign Facebook page* the comment is deleted. I wonder why that is? Try it and see what happens.

Nobody is saying the Tea Party Lady can't run for the school board, but she's subject to scrutiny - just like every other candidate. And the fact that she's a private-school parent claiming the district is inefficient...that's a story meriting greater media coverage.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sure, ANY taxpayer can run for a school board position in their district. Nobody's saying this Tea Partier can't run.

And, just like *every other candidate for public office*, that school-board-wanna-be will be subject to public scrutiny. It's only fair.

So if you ask the Tea Party Lady what her experience is, why she hasn't shown (ANY) prior interest in the district (AT ALL), and why she sends her kids to private school - those are appropriate questions under the circumstances.

And if you respectfully ask those questions on her PUBLIC CAMPAIGN FACEBOOK PAGE...your question will be deleted and you'll be blocked. Try it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. So check it, Tony: Your blog got this story picked up by the mainstream media, and Blue Valley voters have finally started paying attention to who exactly is running for the board of education.

So what do Blue Valley people do when they want more information? Well, they apparently put down their cappuccinos & go online. All week, people have been posting questions to school board candidate Alana Roethle's official campaign Facebook page. Pertinent questions like: What have you done in the school district that makes you qualified to run for the board? Where do you get the facts behind your claim that only 50 cents of every dollar goes to the classroom in BV? Why do you say that student test scores are falling and where's proof of that? Why are your kids in private school? Legit questions, based on the claims appearing on Roethle's public campaign FB page & in her recent campaign mailing to voters.

So what does the Tea Party Lady do in response? Does she answer the questions posted on social media? Does she provide facts & justification for her claims? Nah. She deletes the posts & blocks the posters...again and again. Most recently, she accused one poster of "Cyber-Bullying" because the poster asked why she kept deleting all the questions on her campaign page...instead of just answering them.

So here's the bottom-line, if *this* is how a candidate treats VOTERS, exactly how would she treat parents & patrons if she's actually elected to the school board? There are approximately 20 thousand students in the Blue Valley School District. How's Alana Roethle planning to handle the parents/guardians questions once she's an elected official?

The election's Tuesday, 4/7, and all people want are answers to the questions at-hand. Seems reasonable in light of the claims being made in this election.

Is there a TKC follow-up on the horizon?
