Does All The Controversy Hurt Viewing In The NFL?
Its been a rough ride for the NFL this season. Bad acts by players and teams were the leading stories all year. The answer is NO.
Oh it doesn't paint a 'role model' picture at all. No. It paints a level of interest in America's pastime that is unequaled by anything else, even the world news at times. It's insane how 'important' the NFL has become to most Americans.
We started the year with the 'Ray Rice' story. He hit his wife in an elevator incident. Why, who knows. Knocked her out. The league looked into it for months then gave him a two game hit, after the public saw a much more graphic video of the fight, the league suspended him forever. Later they ended the suspension. He can play next year if someone will sign him. Age is likely a bigger factor than the charge. Also he had not been that effective leading up to the 'punch.'
Then we had Adrian Peterson. Beat his child. guilty, suspended. Ongoing. A great back, but also may be nearing the end of his career.
Now 'Inflate Gate.' Did Bill Belichick and the Pats deflate some air out of the footballs in the AFC Championship Game? Did it matter? First off its the big side show to the Super Bowl. Media loves it, they get to dig on Tom Brady and Bill. Will it hurt viewership. NO. It may even increase viewing.
Why, the NFL is 'Reality TV' at its finest. Numbers are up. According to ESPN the 'draft' of the pro bowl players for this past Sunday's game drew a 34% higher number of viewers than any NBA game this past week. Huh! Yep.
Hollywood has been hurt by the NFL so has network tv that doesn't have the NFL. Nothing is more popular to watch, nothing.
As we have learned and it answers all questions really...the Pats scored 28 unanswered points in the second half, with the balls corrected. Indy had none. Lets face it this was a minor issue, teams do all they can to get an advantage. Remember when players put glue all over their body to help catch balls?
The Patriots have been in 50% of the last 12 Super Bowls winning 3 and maybe will get 4 this Sunday. Tom Brady will do down as the best quarterback of all time. Bill will be painted as the 'evil' one. Is it unfair? What isn't these days. I believe the Pats will win this years Super Bowl.
Pats is the smart bet, as for the NFL problems. Their biggest one is the concussion problem that will change the game again. The liability will shut down the league and made soccer the sport of choice in the U.S., you heard it here first.

In fact most are way older than Glaze like Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Redford and a long list. Glaze is the age of Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis or around there.
