MUST READ!!! MISSOURI REP. AND BLACK CAUCUS CHAIR BRANDON ELLINGTON STANDS WITH PEACEFUL PROTESTORS!!!

TKC NOTE: This open letter from Kansas City MO House Rep. Brandon Ellington just hit the Internets and it's a thoughtful reflection on the reality of recent protest on the legislative process in Missouri and beyond. Check it:

Open Letter from Ellington

What people should understand about the protests that have been occurring nationwide following Mike Brown's death is that the protesters are drawing attention and unifying the country around police brutality which so-called minorities and underprivileged communities have been suffering for years.

If it had not been for protesters blocking traffic, showing up to malls, boycotting Black Friday and disrupting Orthodox life as usual we would not be seeing the President talking about legislation to de-militarize the police. We would not see politicians talking about video and audio equipment for law enforcement. I filed the bill last year and I couldn't get the support of some the politicians talking about filing or the need of this type of legislation now.

Yesterday, I was asked what difference video equipment would make when the police that killed Eric Garner were on video and still evaded prosecution. Well the answer is simple, exposure, it's hard for society to change until the ugly nature of that society and or the institutions that make up that society are exposed. I stand in solidarity with those that are protesting peacefully. As a State Representative I fight passionately to change a system that has overt bias in it. As a black man or an American of African descent it infuriates me when I hear mainstream society belittle those communities that have been oppressed. There are factual, non-anecdotal disparities that are evident in our institutions, social and economic conditions.

I could continue to rant and rave but my true motivation for writing this letter is to ask those that are willing to fight for change to join me regardless of ones ethnicity, social status, educational attainment or income. As an elected official I would like to make it known that you have somebody that is willing to stand with you and to fight with you to change a system that has to be changed.

  1. Haters might rage at this one but at the very least Brandon is letting voters know where he stands and not playing both sides of the fence on this one.

In reality, Brandon is one of the best local leaders out there and he is always willing to meet with his constituents and listen to all side of a debate. That's part of the reason he has risen so quickly because he has the respect of his peers both republican and democrat alike.

  5. Enjoy a large spike in crime for your district Mr. Ellington. The police will certainly take a hands off approach in the black neighborhoods as a result of you and your ilk.

  7. I think it's a good point about police reaction. But I would say that as long as protestors are peaceful, the police don't have any problem with them. Cops aren't as thin skinned as some might think.

It's possible to support the police and rights for black people.

  19. Wonder how the spicster is going to try and spin this one.

Since the cop was a beaner, bet this will go down as accidental.

I have to give the dead Negro some credit on this one. That fat fuck was trying to make a dollar without stealing it. He was simply selling individual cigs.

Now that's not a real fast way of making money, but consider the stupid fuck doing it.

Something wrong when 5 cops have to kill a fat guy because he is selling cigs. This one was wrong. The Mexican cop should be charged and bitched in prison.

  20. He had a heart attack P-Bear. The cops didn't kill him. Although, there is speculation the Mexican cop farted (nasty chili farts) causing temporary asphyxiation which led to the heart attack.

  24. Open Sore From Ellington

What people should clearly comprehend about the protests that have been occurring nationwide following Mike Brown's suicide-by-cop is that the protesters are grandstanding and dividing the country around law enforcement which so-named criminals and government dependent communities have been battling against for years.

Yesterday, I was asked what difference video equipment would make when the police that were forced to subdue an Eric Garner who was resisting arrest were on video and still accused of brutality. Well the answer is simple, exposure, it's hard for society to ignore the loud protesters until the ugly nature of their provocation and or the blackmailing activist organizations that make up that society are exposed. I stand in solidarity with those that are intent on disrupting and harassing the innocent law-abiding public. As a State Representative I fight passionately to promote a system that has overt racism at it's core and perpetuates the forever black victim stereotype. As a black man or an American who claims a nearly mythical African descent it infuriates me when I hear white society expect those communities that have been reliant upon subsidies for so long to transition off of government ASAP. There are factual, non-anecdotal disparities that are evident in our institutions, social and economic conditions which lead some to believe that many black Americans are content to live as wards of the state.

I could continue to rant and rave but my true motivation for writing this letter is to ask those that are willing to overlook my racist views which keep minorities trapped in poverty to join me regardless of ones ethnicity, social status, educational attainment or income. As an elected official I would like to make it known that you have somebody that is willing to ignore your long-term interests and to accept a system that need not be changed if I'm to maintain my political position misrepresenting you.
